'The Soldier'

~

If I should die, think only this of me:

That there's some corner of a foreign field

That is for ever England. There shall be

In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;

A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,

Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,

A body of England's, breathing English air,

Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

~

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,

A pulse in the eternal mind, no less

Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;

Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;

And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,

In hearts at peace, under an English heaven

~

Just thought this might be appropriate for Remembrance. It's from Ukraine's version of Britain's Got Talent but PLEASE don't let that put you off.

The lady, Kseniya Simonova, draws amazing sand pictures to show the effect of WWI on the Ukraine, it's very moving and had me in tears. Worth watching to just remember what people really went through then.

between havant and chichester

They joined for many reasons

to march to sail to fly

they went where they were posted

but nobody joins to die

their leaders talk on tv

what else could we have done

but those leaders lost no daughters

and none has lost a son

so heres to all our soldiers

wherever they may be

and heres to all the families

i raise a glass to thee

wear your poppy with pride

DULCE ET DECORUM EST by WILFRED OWEN

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,

Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,

Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs

And towards our distant rest began to trudge.

Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots

But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;

D*unk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots

Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!---An ecstasy of fumbling,

Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;

But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,

And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime...

Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,

As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,

He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace

Behind the wagon that we flung him in,

And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,

His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;

If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood

Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,

Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud

Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,---

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest

To children ardent for some desperate glory,

The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est

Pro patria mori.

This was written about WW1 but still as poignant now. Any war anywhere is awful.

God bless all our servicemen and women everywhere.

Thank you admin for the reminder. xxxx

The Inquisitive Mind of a child.

Why are they selling poppies mummy?

Selling poppies in town today

The poppies child are flowers of love

For the men who marched away

But why have they chosen a poppy mummy

Why not a beautiful rose

Because my child men fought and died

In the fields where poppies grow

But why are the poppies red,mummy

Why are the poppies so red

Red is the colour of blood my child

The blood that our soldiers shed

The heart of the poppy mummy is black mummy

Why does it have to be black

Black my child is the symbol of grief

For the men who never came back

But why are you crying mummy are you crying so

Your tears are giving me pain

My tears are my fears for you my child

For the world is forgetting again.

I read this to my group of young kids today and they loved it as I do.

Fruit xx

Thanks for the poppy.

Remembrance Day is not the 11th of the 11th of the 11th but is most days for me.

I still cannot do any sort of public Rememberance Service or the announcement in the supermarket mentioned above. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

My particular personna on here been a great help to me and has meant that I no longer need any treatment.

Thank you all for your support for those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those still living.
