They raise your inner temperature to make the outside temperature ummm something or other. When you drink a cold drink your body creates heat to warm it up I think. I should Google before commenting but I think, scientifically it is better to drink hot drinks.

No because the alcohol has a dehydrting affect. I think what you mean is some lager will hydrate more than dehydrate depending on its strength.

"Do they really keep you cool?

Yes is the short answer.

Keep in mind the human body temperature.

If you drink a hot drink it cools until it is at body temperature.

If you drink a cold drink, it warms until it is body temperature.

So people with equal body temps where one drinks a hotty and one drinks a coldy will soon return to their normal body temp. ( keep this in mind for later )

You need the liquid from either drink to sweat.

How we feel temperature depends on a quite a few factors.

e.g. If I drive home in the heat my house feels cool as I walk through the door.

It isn't long before I feel hot in there though.

e.g 2. If I am outside in freezing weather. My house feels warm as I enter. It isn't long before I fee cold in there though and put on the fires.

Back to before. If I drink a hot drink on a hot day it doesn't feel as hot as it does on a cold day cos my body is warm and my surroundings are hot.

If I drink a cold drink on a hot day it feels very cold cos my body is warm and my surroundings are hot.

If I put my foot in a hot bath and ouch it out. I can put it back in the same water and it feels fine......

How cold or hot something 'feels' fools people.

ermmmmmmm Yes. I said yes ages ago.

Don't know the evidence but adding heat to your body puts a burden upon it, that means it must then lose this heat, via standard mechanisms, such as sweating and convection etc. In very hot humid conditions this can be hard, but if you didn't, you'd become very ill. I drink gallons of hot tea every day, including summer heatwaves. I add more cold drinks in heat though.

No, a diuretic makes you pee more than you consume, hence why alcohol dehydrates you

Although recently they have changed the advice in coffee and tea etc to say that they can count towards your total daily water consumption as the benefit of the water in it is more that the deficit of the diuretic.
