It may have been covered before.

I'd like to know if they are really any better for you than fags/baccy?

This is for someone that smokes quite a lot (not me). I have the odd one with a drink sometimes.

I feel much better than what I did as a full smoker, still playing sport, they are a much healthier alternative, take that from someone who uses one.

Both as bad as each other.

None of the chemicals and ingredients that go into e-cigarettes are tested, or regulated.

There's been an influx of people coming into hospital with respiratory problems and poisoning from these e-cigs.

"Recent increases in calls and visits to poison control centers and emergency rooms involving liquid nicotine poisoning have raised public health concerns, FDA said."

http://uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/idUKKCN0PA2SD20150630?irpc=932

This is also a good quote:

"Here's the bottom line: If you're a chronic smoker looking for a nicotine fix and trying to decide between smoking and vaping, most experts would agree there’s a compelling case that e-cigarettes are less harmful.

But a nonsmoker, or an ex-smoker, should think twice before taking up the habit. Even if e-cigarettes are safer than regular cigarettes, that doesn't mean they're totally safe. At this point, we just don't know. There have been no published long-term studies on the health of e-cigarette users, so the impact of vaping on the body over many years or decades is completely unknown"

That first study said nothing about respiratory problems, only accidental nicotine poisoning, mostly of infants and children.

All the studies and review papers I looked at agreed that they were considered WAY safer for the smoker than smoking tobacco, but the much lesser risk could not be exactly quantified until long term studies had been done.

Manchester

I started smoking at the tender age of 12 posibly 13. I even remember sat on the top deck of a bus and inhaling without choking for the very 1st time and thinking what a big man I was (dickhead more like but hey I was a kid) from that day on I was hooked and progressed to 40+ a day. 30 odd yrs later it got to the point even I could no longer argue it wasn't killing me. That was over a yr ago and I'd tride everything I could to quit but just couldn't. They say quiting smoking is harder than quiting heroine and I think that's highly possible it sertonly beat me. As a last dich effort I tride this funny looking gadget and haven't smoked since. I feel healthier I can breath again I no longer stink nor does my car or house which id not even realised till I did stop. My nose works in fact more to the point I work again. Yes you can argue they aren't safe or are untested but at the end of the day I've gone from somthing that definitely was and without dawt killing me to somthing that might or might not be safe. In my mind it's a no brainer and I'm gladly taking that chance

The respiratory problems came from my own knowledge as a respiratory nurse.

The nicotine poisoning has been from drinking the fluid as far as I know, not from vaping

Exactly, and I can't see any papers that mention acute respiratory problems.
