House Clearances

Titz Towers, North Notts

We've recently had an elderly great aunt pop her clogs and so we've had to clear her bungalow.

We've found some great stuff. Some sulphur toilet roll from during the war that was in the coalhouse. Phone bills dating back to before the millennium and a copy of The joy of sex, which at 92 is impressive.

It's inspired me to consider buying some weird shit when I feel I'm on my way out, just so that people go never knew they were into that, as they find 28 pole vaulting poles in my garage.

What odd things have you found when clearing out a snuffed it relative's effects?

Central

I might buy some alchemy sets, use them and leave the clearers hunting for the lost gold.

I've not been involved in many clearances, thankfully, as it's a sad task. Hope your feeling as well as can be Tina!!

Brighton - even Hove!

I once found a newspaper from about 1950. Houses for £500 and men's hat adverts.

I might get an old 7inch record, cut it to cd size and leave it in a cd drawer with a sharpie message on the CD player saying 'this doesn't work - no sound'

We found eight jewellery boxes for Clogau gold in my brother in laws top drawer. ...

Sadly they were empty, and we suspect his ex had been in and swiped them whilst we were at the hospital

My uncle was an obsessive tool buyer. He lived on his own and we found 2 rooms full of brand new tools. It looked like he bought 3 of everything!

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

My dear old aunties had some very bizarre stuff in their pantry.

Soap boxes and stockings from the war, old tins before best before dates were used, heaps of really strange stuff. Went to a local museum.

They also had about 4 lifetimes supply of loose leaf tea.

A friend of mine did house clearances on the side.

I've heard about nude porn pics under a mattress, and old vibrators..

Also quite a lot of gold, which was hastily sold for cash...

My dad isn't dead but we cleared out his house and found old playboys, other old comics (kids ones), loads of stuff museums might have liked that were from the war era and just been kept in case they needed them, things like tins of medical stuff.

Wish i'd not had 4 very young children at the time and had time to organise the selling or giving away of this stuff.
