So the Confederate flag is now as toxic as the Swastika.

Just read that a TV station in the US has pulled re-runs of The Dukes of Hazard, because of The General Lee.

Well it does symbolise the states who fought to keep slavery and has been the symbol for many white supremacists including the Charlestown shooter.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

When one side loses a civil war, they don't generally get to keep their flags and everything intact.

It has always surprised me that that flag has been plastered everywhere as a symbol of pride in a way of life that was built on owning and abusing other humans.

That's just daft to pull old episodes of the dukes of hazard, political correctness gone mad for sure.

Having read this and the Marching season thread, there appears to be a theme of "it's in the past, let it drop".

Should this apply to both sides?

Mutatis Muntandis anyone?

That would require both sides to accept that the necessary changes have been made.

So should we pull all old episodes of "All Allo" because they may have a swastika in them or stop all ww2 films being shown? Do you really agree with the dukes of hazard being removed from television schedules?

How about those houses and buildings where swastikas are carved into the stone of the buildings themselves, almost always pre-dating 1930's Germany.

Should they be demolished?

Yes "Dad's Army" must be banned, there are 3 swastikas in the opening credits pointing at Britain.

Maybe we could change the swastikas for EU flags instead?

I know very little about American history, but when even Jeb Bush says the Confederate flag is a racist emblem and should be removed from public buildings, who am I to disagree?

I think that while white men are shooting black people for no reason other than the colour of their skin, then no, one side definitely hasn't moved on.

To draw the analogy with the Irish marches, it would be lovely to imagine a day when both sides could march together, perhaps every Good Friday, to commemorate a much more important day in their shared history.

As for the Dukes of Hazard, I can't remember if it was more "Love thy neighbour" or "In sickness and in health", I just remember Daisy Duke
