My parents are due to fly to Australia in 7 days and dad has found a lump which has been checked out by the docs. Once they peeled him off the ceiling the docs has requested an emergency appointment at the local hospital and naturally has told him not to fly currently.

So we are now waiting for an appointment for him to be teated and maybe removal if it is Cancer. My dad is in his mid 60s.

My parents have waited so long to do this trip as they are not due back until end of Jnauary.

My question really is has anyone experienced this type of cancer(we are assuming at the moment but hope to get things confirmed soon)and what has happened and how.

a cpl on here are just going through the same thing now

they are lovely people and like your dad were scared to bits when they found out

he moved all the chat about this on to face book where everyone rallied round

he opened a daily dairy to help him self understand how he was feeling

but the best news is that after the first test and biopsy they told him it was early stages and he will be fine

he might lose his balls but he will be fine

if it would help your dad i could ask my friend if its ok to pass on his contact details?

Hi thanks for the message. It is very early stages and we are concerned that this wont all happen in time for them to go away on hol. My dad does know I am on this site but not that I am mentioning his bally bits on here lol,but I do hope that he would like someone that is going through it to chat with. So if you can let me know how to get some details x

I had something similar last month. was sent for an immediate scan and bloodtests.

they told me any testicular lump is treated as cancerous until proved otherwise so stay positve. mine turned out to not be serious but it did me a favour as the blood tests showed up a serious thyroid problem which is going to take a while to sort out.

I've had this.

I had two small lumps on my testicles and I was sent to the hospital. A scan confirmed they were harmless cists which are very common in men.

I too had an emergency scan at the hospital a few months ago after finding a lump, must admit was sxxxxxxxx myself but turned out it was nothing, apparently it originated from a fight i was in years ago at school and at the moment is nothing to worry about, just got to keep an eye on it.

As has been said most of the time they send you to hospital as a precaution for any unusual lumps and bumps.. keep positive, i'm sure everything will be ok. and if forbid it should be anything serious i am pretty sure there is a very high success rate for treatment.

Have you tried looking at the macmillan cancer site, or similar ones? I found them very helpful when going through cancer myself...they take you step by step through every procedure from the gp visit to the eventual operation recover times etc.

Fingers crossed that it is nothing serious for your dad, but try researching some of these sites... google can indeed be your friend in these circumstances. xxxxxx

It would be very unusual if it is serious! Testicular Cancer is not normally found in guys of 60. Most common ages are 15 to 40, so from that it looks good. I found lumps about six months ago and went to the docs, although he sent me for tests, he was sure I was OK.

After the tests, he told me that in his 28 years of doctoring, he had never personally seen anyone over 50 with the disease.

Good news, if it is early stages, there is an 85% clearup rate, so prognosis is good. Good luck to you and yours xxxx

My dad was diagnosed with Testicular cancer just after my mum died just over twenty years ago. When he was first diagnosed he was very upset and the hospital moved very quickly to start treament, which made him think the worst. He received regular treatment including chemo and was never cured of the cancer. Other than when he received chemo his quality of life was not affected and when he passed away earlier this year it was from old age and not because of the cancer.

Rumour, I do hope that is the case as he is 6o something, am counting now.... 66 years.

He has an appointment on monday at the hospital but that does mean the holiday to australia is now cancelled. They were due to fly out on Tuesday morning, so its been cancelled. Have to claim on the insurance and go from there when we know more about what it is and treatment.

They werent due back from aussy til end of jan so have to see if the whole trip is cancelled or just delayed a bit.

Will get on google and do some reading too. Thanks x

Hi Fruit, Huni I have worked the Uroligy ward for years and it is nice to know that your dad has been checking himself regulary as this is important. If this is a new lump just formed you may find that it is either a cyst or very early stage of cancer. As you know the earlyer they catch it the better I hope that they manage to get on holiday and that the appoinment goes well for him. I am also glad that he got an appoinment so quickly as things will start moving for him

Ok, update...

Dad has had his appointment this afternoon and they have checked it all out and decided it is fluid/swelling(not sure what they called it as wasnt there lol) after his vasectomy donkeys years ago.

They have given him anti inflamatories to get it to go and is not cancerous or a problem.

the unfortunate thing was that they had to make a ecision last friday as to cancel or not the hol so they were able to claim off their insurance.

The doc had said that he reccomened dad not to fly off as if it did turn out to be cancer then he would be a bloody long way from home to get treatement.

So they cacnelled the trip and are going to have to claim back as they were due to fly out tomorrow afternoon and were leaving Norfolk tomorrow morning, and not returning til the last day of January 2011.

So its bloody good news that it isnt cancer but sad news that their hol was cancelled.

They will naturally loose money on cancellling the whole hol but dad does not have cancer so we are all still happy.

I have a friend who has just got over prostrate cancer.

he had surgery then 28 treatments of radio therapy at cristies.

they are very good he had counciling and he has come out of it ok just needs his bloods checking every 6 mnths now.

I wish your father all the best and all the family and friends as it is a shock to all.

So glad your dad is ok. My 20 yr old son has a dilated vein in his testicle...diagnosed by a scan. He is in agony. Not got his appointment with consultant until nearly end of December. Does anyone have any experience of this and what the treatment is?

Just googled this and think u should read it for yourself it says it is low risk .

that is brilliant news Fruit...

i have a mate who is a similar age to myself, at the age of 15 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to have one of his testicles removed to prevent any spread. Nearly 30 years later, he has just been back to the hospital after finding another lump..luckily it has been diagnosed as a cyst and removed. you can imagine his heartache though thinking perhaps the other testicle was going to be removed.

another friend of my age has also just been diagnosed with a cyst after spending months worrying and not telling anyone he had found a lump...

for men, it seems we are all so proud of what we have downstairs, whether it be big, fat, small etc it is ours and we love 'em!! i regularly have a check around when in the shower and feel very strongly supporting testicular cancer charities etc to help get that message across. like breast cancer, it is a horrible disease and i truely feel for anyone diagnosed...

remember guys and girls, there is absolutely nothing wrong with feeling yourselves to check regularly
