Was wondering how many of you take your phone with you when you go abroad?

To me a holiday is just that, a time to leave the normal everyday shit at home and chill for a week or so

That's not what I would classify as a holiday, the idea is to leave behind the stress of work surely? Relax and have fun

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

I take my phone in case of emergencies, and so I can be contactable.

My dad is not as young as he was, and I'd hate to be out of contact in case anything happened.

I know exactly where you're coming from on that score, - but what would you have done in the days before the mobile phone?

Being self employed it's just a matter of course that my phone and tablet go wherever I go on holiday. I tend to put them in the safe as much as possible though and only use for researching the area we are in and the odd login to various websites we frequent.

The iPad was essential when we went to New York and were caught up in hurricane Sandy aftermath

It's even better now that I can use my data and call allowance package while abroad.

Just because we are on holiday it doesn't stop us using technology to enhance the experience

My dad was much younger then, and less of a concern... but I would still make arrangements to call home regularly, and make sure they knew the hotel number for me.

Used to ring someone from the hotel and let them know the number of reception

Yeah, that's me too, - in an emergency, ring - but if not, I'm on holiday!!

I can't think of anything worse than bringing a Mobi or lappy on holiday!

Yeah that's the thing as well. The holidays I tend to take work *much* better when you can look things up on the net. In New York, for example, we'd have never discovered the *amazing* pizza place round the corner from our hotel without TripAdvisor. Or the awesome 24-hour breakfast place where all the locals ate. Or the Swedish chain of cafes... or the Mexican...

In Paris I'd have lost a day without my phone because the staff at the Louvre went on strike on my birthday. Instead I was able to access all the research I'd done before I went (that I'd left on my laptop back in my apartment) and find somewhere else that was open with things I wanted to see.

I spent my childhood on holiday with my Dad just wandering around and trying to find somewhere that 'looked' nice. Now I just go on the internet and see what everyone else recommends - makes for much better holidays.

I have to admit I do my pre holiday research online but I prefer the more impromptu trip & planning too much can ruin things; better to go with the flow in my book ........... which would be a Lonely Planet book, no way an Ebook!

Besides, I like to travel on the more exotic side & wifi can be non existent anyhow!

I see several people have mentioned needing it to take pics, but I always take a dedicated camera which generally give better quality photos anyway

Brighton - even Hove!

I take a phone in case of emergencies but try not to use it and proper camera for photos even though my phone takes good pics.

Ah you see, since I'm a photographer, I like to take my phone as my camera instead.

Away with the fairies (Liverpool to you)

Always take mine but more for entertainment than to speak to people - although I do facetime home to see how my fur babies are doing every couple of days

Catthorpe

Always have done but not doing so this year. Pretty sure my new employers wouldn't hesitate on giving me a call for an opinion and that situation isn't going to happen.
