I've been a big Murray supporter from since before, when everyone used to slag him off. I'm putting Murray in the final. Would love him to win... but playing against Djokovic is like playing against a brick wall. I'll be cheering for him all the way though

Yes that will be a good match against djokovic, could be down to the wire with last set. Same here would like him to win the tournament as well.

You may or may not be a good tennis player. My mother-in-law was supposedly a good tennis player. Murray? Something tells me he's in a slightly different league. Whatever your _iews on him...

Murray is the greatest British tennis player ever.

He would certainly wipe the floor with any of our old heroes from yesteryear and a certain previous player called Tim doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as him... now that dude really was mediocre. The guy won a friggin gold medal at the olympics. I don't hear people claiming other olympic gold medallists were subpar. You're just a Murray-denier

At this point its really only Murray and perhaps a couple of others on a good day who stand a chance of beating Djokovic... and that's something that not even Nadal nor Federer can lay claim to at this point imo. That puts him firmly in the league of the greats, whether you're willing to admit that or not.

Oh and I just wanted to add that damning people by saying "they'll never be this or that" is one of the worst sides of the Brits. Even if he was just a good tennis player at this point... why would you say he wasn't capable of being great? That's just defeatist, pissy and negative. Wish the guy well. Lets hope he reaches ever greater heights and inspires us to do the same.

Forget who we were playing but he wanted the other team to win. Which is fair enough, his choice, but for no particular reason other than what seemed to be a dislike of the English

He was a 19 year old kid wrapped up in cotton wool and put infront of television cameras with Tim Henman who was ribbing him about his Scottishness to which he said he'd be supporting anyone who plays against England. It was a joke, banter and blown out of all proportion. Just a kid who made a daft comment like his peers do at that age. Pity it was in front of cameras and his media training got sidetracked by the banter, it's actually one of the few times you saw a fun Andy Murray infront of the cameras and wouldn't be surprised if that episode plays a big part in the dour demeanour we see infront of the cameras today.

I met Andy Murray a few years ago and we were chatting about playing in the Davis cup for Britain. He turns up for the Davis cup games for Britain and he loves playing for his country , many tennis stars give this compition a big body swerve as there is not much money playing for your country at tennis.

He is really chatty and friendly unlike the way he comes across on the tv I think it is just he is nervous when being inter_iewed !!!!

How can somebody say he is good and not great??? Playing in the toughest era of all time, at the same time as possibly the 3 best players of all time in Federer/Nadal/Djokovic. He is consistently in with a shout of winning.

As for his personality; he is a pro tennis player not a pro public speaker. His comments years ago about football. It is said by most Scots/Welsh/Irish folk. It was a back handed compliment.

To add, Borg did it with wooden raquets, lived a glamorous lifestyle, hardly trained, maybe even a smoker.

Nor did he do it with a Team Borg including physio, nutritionist, psychologist etc.

Take Murray back to the era and circumstances of Borg or Laver and he'd not win a set off of them.

2 grand slam titles, numerous runners up spots. An Olympic gold and around £40m in the bank suggests he's not too bad at the sport he loves.

I think you've failed to grasp just how physically gruelling the game has become today. Murray would probably wipe the floor with them both... they'd be guzzling their Robinson's Barley water like nothing and tripping over themselves out of exhaustion. I didn't realise it but he's also got the fastest ever forehand... which is quite something considering the competition

Borg only played in Australia once - when he was about 17. Never went back- was a bit of a hike back then. Think it was also played on grass at the time.

But to answer your point about slams - it wasn't seen as the be all and end-all that it is today. There was another competition he won about 5 times, kind of like the end of year thing we have now. That was considered quite important.

Borg was bigger than tennis - took it to a whole new level. But yeah they're all fab players - Borg, fed, Muzza. Guess you have to include laver though if you're talking about the greatest of all time.

But that's the problem, if you've never seen someone play you just don't really know. Think his statistics are pretty awesome

On the contray, the MODERN game is physically demanding, on occasions gruelling. Wasn't one of Murray's early problems that he himself wasn't strong enough, fit enough nor fast enough for the modern game?

Take Murray back to an earlier era and circumstances and as a kid growing up in Britain in the 50's ( v Laver) or 60's ( v Borg) would have been nowhere near the physical level of modern players. Nowhere near.

Nor were Laver or Borg but they had such natural talent they'd have hammered Murray in the 60's / 70's.

"On the contray, the MODERN game is physically demanding, on occasions gruelling.

Nor were Laver or Borg but they had such natural talent they'd have hammered Murray in the 60's / 70's."

Lol So basically what you're saying is... leave Laver and Borg as they were... but take Murray back... handicap him by getting rid of his physical fitness and all his modern learning about how to play against people like Nadal, Federer and Djokovik... and he'd basically be shit Jeez man you don't half come out with some crap sometimes lol

That's the first case of the "Murray would've been crap if he hadn't learnt how to play tennis at a world class level and wasn't fit" argument I've ever come across lol

Why not just have Murray play Laver or Borg next week then and see who's the best?

Well at least that's realistic... assuming Rod Laver is still alive next week lol. Your time travel scenario was not realistic to start with. It was a work of fantasy. I just found it amusing that your fantasy appeared to have this rule that Murray needed to be stripped of everything that's going for him on his journey back through time. Why don't we just take Borg, Laver, and Murray back to the Triassic age, make them all the same age, give em a few rocks each, and have em duke it out without any formal education between them whatsoever? That's what I'd call a fair fight lol

As somebody said earlier: impossible to compare eras.

What is interesting though, is a few years ago there was a programme on tv (possibly Wimbledon coverage) where they had the top players today serving with wooden rackets. The MPH difference was marginal.

Without doubt the rackets today give you better control and are lighter, but for power their was little in it.

"Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player to date!!! He's also hott, just love him!!!

Agree

He has so much charisma. Comes across as a person with class and grace and manners. He looks so stylish too.

The man has TWO sets of twins ... he's just a machine. A perfectly made machine

He has one set of twins I thought.... or has he had more recently!

Definitely two. The first are girls and second boys. Is a year ago recent? "

I know, I had to check it out on the internet!! 2 girls, 2 boys, he doesn't need any more kids lol!! Federer is the man!!

No one could have beaten Federer today. Murray barely played a bad shot.

Yep, the Fed Express was in a different league today, from what I saw of it, - I didn't see Murray getting any closer than 30-30 to a break point on Federer's serve.

Federer was different class today every shot he hit was right out the top drawer.

Sadly Murray never stood a chance and hopefully Roger will go on and win the final and make it his 8th Wimbledon Championship Title.

Yep totally out classed

When the Feds on that form nobody would beat him, his biggest criticism is maintaining his form, if he does, I'd put money on him cruising past novac in the final

That's a bit harsh considering what Andy and Jamie witnessed as children he is still a great player and athlete that kids here in GB look up to and admire.

I hope Jamie wins the doubles.

Perhaps you would understand if you witnessed that and there was a programme filmed on Andy Murray a few years ago in which he said himself that sometimes he has flashbacks and that it affects his personality.

If you watch the program on him you will understand. They had to stop filming it because he was in such a state about what happened, that's why something like that would affect anyone's personality. He is a very deep person as well.

I saw the programme... and although what happened to him was sad...He still has a boring monotone voice and is depressing to listen to.... just because I have sympathy for what happened to him.. it doesn't make him any less boring... In fact.. He should be more thankful every day as he was amazingly lucky to escape with is life and become a good tennis player... your argument is irrelevant to me saying he is boring.. (in my opinion)

I saw the part of the programme you are talking about, he also said he didn't want to thought of as the kid who escaped Dunblane, but as a sportsman. You are making excuses for a man who people some think doesn't come across with much personality. I am not sure that's the right thing to do after what he said on the programme.

Lots of people go through traumatic things in their life and carry on, just like he did to live his life now.

all you see is what you watch on TV, or indeed do you know him personally

maybe you should visit the Cromlix and chat to him in person, I have and he seems a very sound, open person with a reasonable good business head, looking further ahead for when his Tennis Career ends

It appears you will always get people trying to put someone down because of his achievements

some believe all the hear and see on tv, sometimes its better to switch tv off and get out into the real world
