There is no best first message. You can write anything you like if your profile is on point.

This, no point writing reams of shit you think the other person wants to hear. Write a bit that says 'this is me' and hit the send button.

Well yeah their profile picture or avatar or whatever you want to call it. When I get a message before opening it I'll look at the picture first then click their profile to check other pictures, will check height and then if all of that is satisfactory then I will read the message. If they don't have a profile picture but the message shows there's attachments then I'll open it to see the pictures.

I'm with Athena on this. First message is irrelevant as long as it is something I can understand and not abusive. if I don't like the look of the person sending the message I won't respond no matter how good their message is.

We have a quick look at the profile before opening the message. There's never been a time when we've not liked the profile and changed our minds because of the message.

Maybe start by seeing us as people - as women or ladies - it feels very disrespectful and off-putting to be referred to as "a female"..!

I've had a reasonable amount of success with people replying and I'm fairly new

As innocent had suggested I always at least attempt to show I've bothered to read their profile by mentioning something that is in there

I also always attach a clear face pic seems to work for me
