Many times in days gone by, no probs.

Had one guy though, asked where he was going and he said X. Said i'm going through there yet when i got there and asked where he wanted to be dropped he said Y, some ten miles down the road. Repeat, where'd you want to be dropped. Cheeky fucker said Z some 10 more miles down the road. Pleasant though and good company, quite why he couldn't say Z in the first place i dunno.

Sadly, it seems that no-one would accept a lift these days, would happily save folks time and possibly bus fare if they would.

I once broke down and was given a lift when I was 18, so have always done the same to repay the karma. Less often nowadays though since the car is nearly always full.

It's surprising how few axe-murderers hitch nowadays

I am not sure if this counts but stopped in traffic and this women jumped in my car. She said she has been waiting for the bus for a long time. I drove her home and it would of been rude of me not to go in for a cup of coffee!!

So much it was awkward I asked him what was in it and he said 'none of your fucking business' obviously I told him to have a little respect ect as I was helping him. About 30 mins went by so I asked him again , none of your fucking business he said ! So after a little row I kicked him out. Any way got home and I couldn't believe it he'd only left his bag in my car. So I took it in and opened it!

I hitched lifts in my early 20's, with my bf at the time though. We met some interesting people along the way. Funds were tight at the time. We never had any bad experiences from it. In later years, he would always pick up a hitchhiker, if there was room in the car. We both lived, to tell the tale.

Have hitched in ma youth, and picked up people, never had any problems. As a biker, I once encountered another dude who had broken down on a mountain road in Wales, I took him 15 miles to Bala where he got some spare bits, then took him back to his bike. We rode back to Bala where he got me pissed and put me up for the night

hitch hiking used to be the best way to travel.... as it was usually the more interesting folk who stopped and gave lifts,(craque was mighty) either them or gay men(never gave any hassle) or the religious freaks looking to convert... thankfully no real nutters

nowadays it is us who are behind the wheel, and yes we normally do stop for folk who have their thumb in the air .

Dropped him two services stations down the motorway.

Think I unnerved him with my speedy driving lol

Only one so far, but he wasn't hiking. He'd run out of petrol and I didn't realise the nearest petrol station was only 400 yards away down the next turning. He was grateful enough, although he did have a shock when my dog popped his head forwards to say hello from the back seats.

Yes...have picked up the odd hiker but many years ago....so rarely see someone thumbing a lift these days...must be people are really fearful and don't hitch. In Australia I hitched a..bit...got a couple of llifts from women to...had lunch bought for me...beer...and one chap and his family took me and another couple of guys in for a few days...and took us out for a barbi....only one big good experience there and no bad ones.

Picked a lass up from Stafford once was from somewhere in Kansas was hitching from Bristol to perth to go work as a gillie at pheasant shoots . Realy pleasent girl interesting and funny . She added me on Facebook to keep in touch after I dropped her at Lymm truck stop . Ended up getting five more lifts to get there and had some adventures after that as she toured the country flitting from job to job

Yeah I have done in the past, and stopped at several break downs, a dad with 3 young kids, with a flat, he was mortified at having a woman change the wheel for him, but didn't want to leave a stranger sat up the bank with his kids, I won't give lifts if IV got my sproglet with me tho.

Your only ever gonna hear about the negativity that comes with hitch-hiking, like everything. Good news is swept under the table these days but one person gets murdered by hitch-hiking & that's all you ever hear & all your sadly going to associate with it from then on.

Morale of the story is, if someone wants to murder someone, they'll find a way to do it, wether it be picking an innocent stranded pedestrian up or under cooking their chicken dinner therefore resulting in an unsavoury death called salmonella....

So now if I see a genuine hitcher, or a driver with trade plates, I pretty much always stop if I'm going their way.

i did..i was going along wondering how i was going to find my way to a particular address in a town i didnt know..i knew main directions to it...i saw a guy , i stopped to pick him up...turns out he was going back home to exact town i was going to..i gave him a lift all the way and he gave me exact directions to where i needed to go to..perfect scenario i think thats what they call fate x

So i went out of my way and dropped him off as close as one could reasonably get on match day.

I always pick up hitch hikers - spent many years on the road when I was younger, so I know what it's like to need a lift and having to watch cars zooming by with just one person in them.

I've never had any problem, either as a hitcher or as a driver... but I've met plenty of lovely and interesting people.

Your knowledge of the drinking habits of people who go clubbing is greater than mine, obviously.

In fact, your knowledge of an incident that happened before you were even born is greater than mine, and I was there. You are truly remarkable.

If ever I again see a loan female who I perceive to be in a vulnerable situation I shall think of you and assume she's looking to get fucked and try to figure out how best I can take advantage of the situation.
