Please, no timewasters...

What is it that people expect to happen when they put the message 'no timewasters' on their profile or status?

Timewasters don't have a habit of announcing themselves well in advance. If they did, they wouldn't be timewasters would they!

Thoughts?

Might be better to re-phrase it as something to the effect of

"we know how to find and see who are timewasters and who are genuine so don't waste your time and ours"

But the truth is most timewasters don't even read profiles they just look at the pictures.

North of The Wall - youll need your vest

I always send a polite personalised message, but as soon as I tell people Im a timewaster they never reply...

Oh and Im genuine as well. Sometimes forget to mention that though

They do you know. I have lots of them announce themselves into my inbox every day and I can spot them in their first sentence.

There are all sorts of timewasters... ones that don't turn up or let you down last minute with crap excuses etc. and the ones who don't bother to read your profile. That probably wastes more of my time than anything else. I'm getting a little more ruthless in my old age and I've stated in my profile that if someone hasn't bothered to read it then I'll delete without a response. It goes against my grain to do that but seriously... I'd spend half my time here saying "no thanks" to people who haven't taken the time to see that I'm not interested in them before they PM me.

It's not a phrase I use though... cause like you say, what's the point? It's not like half the people read it!!

We assume it is supposed to mean the profile holder knows how things work and wont put up with being messed around.

"We assume it is supposed to mean the profile holder knows how things work and wont put up with being messed around. "

Maybe, but that wouldn't make the message an effective one.

Even if you won't put up with being messed around, doesn't mean you can prevent it happening.

Norfolk

we joined the time waster club last night - single guy making comments inconsistent with our profile (god that sound pompus!), we told him if he read the profile he would know what we want, he messaged us back calling us time wasters and blocked us. We were gutted! pmsl

Funny. Pre-emptive blocking - last resort of the desperate.

Bit like high school isn't it - "She can't dump me if I dump her first!"
