Absolutely appalled at the bigotry I've seen in the comments on various social media about gay marriage in the USA, really does show how close minded some Americans are, what does everyone else think of their attitude?

There will always be bigots and hatred of it unfortunately and there are many religious zealots and cults in america that read the bible how they want too and that will never change!

At the end of the day it does not harm me in any way shape or form so I would never have an issue with it

Westboro Baptist Church says it all about some Americans' attitudes and twisted, almost psychopathic, hatred of others.

So is a bigot someone who has a different opinion to you?

You should just accept that people have different opinions + not everyone actually agrees with it.

A bigot is someone who is unfairly intolerant of others, ie an unreasonable prejudice.

No, a bigot is a bigot.

i.e: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

I've seen some stuff that I'd regard as extremely closed minded and bigoted but I've seen more stuff with a positive message which has outweighed it.

I think what the feck has it got to do with politics and law. If two blokes or two ladies what to announce there love to each other and commitment then why should someone dictate what they should do!

Someone holding bigotry towards others is a bigot. The type of person who would go out of their way to make life difficult or unpleasant for others, where the very existence of these people in no way impinges on their life.

The American change over marriage recognises that others shouldn't be disadvantaged, just because of who they are.

The so called 'Gay' marriage - if you don't want it, don't marry the same gender is fairly straightforward.

because a lot of states started to define marriage in state laws as only between a man and a woman.... so what the supreme court decision did yesterday to overturn that

"States are required to grant a marriage license to same sex couples and recognise same sex marriages from other states"

it become an issue when for example the person who brought the case yesterday they had been with their partner 21 years and died...and their name was not allowed to go on the death certificate as the spouse

also affect entitlement to partners pensions and benefits....

It's the latest stage on ongoing power battle between church and state.

Who gets to set the rules. This has been the essential 'fight' since about 2000.

For a long time, was the church - then states started making more and more laws.

So the gays can already marry in a civil ceremony- but guess what, now they want to do it in a church,

Yeah Christian churches- where their belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman. Core belief right.

Been that way for 2000 years.

But no, state is telling you its ok for gays to marry in a church (and before long if you refuse you will be prosecuted)- against their beliefs.

Btw I don't go to church - but this is the real story.

And then you get some numpties saying people are bigots for standing up for their beliefs.

They should believe what we tell them, coz we is right, right?

Textbook definition of pre judging
