It's well into the season now so I thought I'd share and hopefully pick up some tips too -

Mine - you can freeze cans of Stella !

Nice cold beer 2 days in to the festival.

Doesn't that kill the alcohol ?

\no, alcohol freezes at a lower temperature than water. I always freeze my vodka.

Camping tips - bin bags. Lots of them. And toilet roll.

A can of beer will freeze in a few hours if left in the freezer. I thought that that killed the alcohol as well so you might as well drink pop.

The water in the booze is what freezes. The alcohol doesn't (which is why booze never freezes totally solid).

You can actually use this to 'distil', by cutting the ice off, leaving the core alcohol. But that's illegal and would be bad.

this is fine so long as it doesnt rain or there is a flash flood ! In which case you may end up drowning in your tent

"Put the tent up while still sober "

Indeed, realising at 5 in the morning you don't have a clue where your tent is is a somewhat sobering experience

The bit about using river as fridge is good, but I wouldn't pitch near any river. The mozzies love the water + they are a real pain

Sheffield

Extra bedding cos it's colder at night than you'd think.

Don't forget your towel in case you manage to get in the showers.

A handful of clothes pegs so you can peg your towel or anything damp up either on the guy ropes or inside the tent if/when it rains.

Take a jug. Great for filling with booze so you're not juggling loads of cups past crowds of people and for skipping the stupid shower queues - just wash yourself at the water points using the jug to pour water all over yourself.

When you've finished packing, take half of it out and leave it at home.

The real differentiator is whether you have a car or not.

When I started camping/ traveling as a student, what the guys above say about chucking half your stuff out, before you leave - was the golden rule.

But if you have a nice fat car boot, and back seat it's so much easier coz you can take so much more.

Crete or LANCASTER

Remember where you put your tent.

It's fine when it's light, quite different later on in the dark.

I will add I've been doing this for years. Doesn't kill the alcohol. Only works for Stella to my knowledge as the cans are aluminium so expand. Others will burst as they thaw.

Near Edinburgh..

Fill a Clean "Wheely-Bin" with all your Booze and tents etc..

Much Easier to drag across the muddy fields..

Then you can put all your tents and stuff you have left in to drag back home..

Simple - don't camp at the bottom of a hill.

Camp close to loos but not too close.
