To allow maintenance of the palace costing 150mil. I guess it needs updating and also not good with damp building up there, where would she move to?

Is it maintenance? I thought she'd just discovered Westminster Council was extending the bedroom tax to Buck Palace! *

We could put her up, I bet that Duke of Edinburgh is a right laugh

Mr ddc

* apols to Londoners if Buckingham Palace isn't actually in Westminster. Isn't it all London south of Watford Gap?

I fink it is. Couldn't put up with Queenie myself but I am sure she will find lodgings somewhere. After all, with the bedroom tax I reckon many folk need to rent a room out.

She spends more of her time at Windsor Castle now anyway. She only spends time at Buckingham Palace when she has to be in London.

I suppose a better way of referring to Buckingham Palace would be that it is the Queen's head office.

Maybe she could go on tour round the homes of her wealthier subjects, staying a few months at a time, at their expense.

Any hosts unwilling to participate could opt out by returning their titles, tiaras etc.

Apart from the obvious thing of going to one of the other houses she has, my thought is that if any house in the country was big enough to live in just a fraction of while other bits are done up its Buckingham palace

Alternatively get Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen and carol smilie on the job it'll be done in an afternoon while Betty is away watching horses or something

That's how it used to be done, the Royal Household would tour the country being put up by the local gentery at the gentry's expense

To be serious, if that's possible here, why the hell has it been allowed to deteriorate to that extent?

Don't they have an Estate Manager, Maintenance Manager?

Isn't it something that is ongoing?

No doubt some feckless

Old Etonion has been paid a mint for doing S.F.A.

You do realise that the crown estate puts a lot of money into the treasury and the monarch only gets a percentage of the income from that.. that most of the income comes from land and companies owned by the crown... Then of course there is money brought in by the tourism...

I think "genocide" is a bit strong!

And I'm not even sure the royal family had much to do with Scottish landowners forcing their tenants to emigrate.
