Would anyone on here be worried about a holiday in greece now that they may be pulling out of the euro?

Been given some advice about taking lots of cash with me etc, ready for the muggers to get some easy cash!

Any sensible advice guys n girls?

This is going back a good few years but when I worked in eastern Europe I would always have a supply of US dollars, Deutschmarks and Sterling. It opened so many doors. Having USD or GBP will probably have a similar effect.

Hurra for the BBC and their panic reporting... Quick tomorrow the Pound is being cancelled and replaced with Rubles ...

Do you honestly believe that Euro's would not be accepted in Greece even if they would leave ? Anyway Germany will not let that happen as if Greece leaves bang goes Euro 120 billion for Germany and Mrs Merkel would be joining Mr Blair... So Greece is staying for a long time in the Euro

Don't worry just don't take piles of Euro with you and check the Euro notes you get; ever Euro country has its' own "print" try and get X (Germany), U (France), P (Holland) as these will be in part protected by their own National Banks.

Just a warning Brussels is increasing the VAT in Greece to 23% for food and to 13% for hotels so add that in when you are going to Greece as at the moment VAT for food is 10% and hotels 6%

Just be careful like everywhere you go. Major towns like Athens could be dangerous with all the protesters but the tourist areas should be fine as they are earning even if it is small amounts.

If you`re in a decent Hotel or Apartment block they should have a safe so only take out what you need.

Greece is a lovely place with lovely people.

Bloody hell, when is the VAT rise happening or will the Greeks tell them to do one.

The experts predict that even if they left the euro nothing will happen for 18 months. If I understood the report it also suggest that costs in Greece could be as much as 20% cheaper than last year due to the strength of the pound and prices being cut in greece. AS others have said they main advice is to take cash as ATMs particularly on the islands could run out of cash and some businesses may not take cards.

Greece will be given the money and they will not be leaving the euro anytime soon. However, friends who came back recently said everything was quite expensive as people only wanted to take cash and were using tourist pricing to boost their profits.

Will also have a pre loaded card for emergency use if it comes to it.

Main concern is protesters and immigration problem at the moment, we just want a peaceful week away

It is not this months debt repayment that is the problem, taht can be missed wish no great problem.

The chrunch comes if July and August's payments are missed, then legal steps have to be taken no option.

I know three people going to Greece this week. They don;t seem overly concerned - I just told them to take plenty of Sterling and not rely on banks or cash machines.

We lived in Greece for 9 years so know alot about the people over there and the situation at the moment. Yes banks could be a problem so take cash. As for all the rubbish of muggers you are far more likely to be mugged by another tourist than by a Greek. Papers have wrote rubbish about what's going on over there for years...the truth is usually a poor story that won't sell papers!
