cool bath or shower (without bubble bath or shower gel), and a cold cloth on affected area. Rash usually subsides after 24-48 hrs. if not, you may need a steroid cream from your doc xx

Aveeno bath powder. You get it from the chemists and it's not cheap, about £1.50 a sachet. It is however fab for relieving itching and very soothing. Also if the antihistamines you are taking aren't Chlorpheniramine try those. They are much better for dealing with skin complaints than the other antihistamines..

Hope this helps xxx

burbage

I suffered with urticaria on and off for years. Last year it was brought on by codeine in pain killers I was on. Looked like I had chicken pox! I had my usual anti histamines (prescription ones) but to now avail. I couldn't get it under control and was getting me down. After a few trips to doctor and steroid tablets he suggested a diet to follow recommended by a skin specialist. I followed it and within weeks was clear. I excluded certain foods in this diet and slowly introduced them after about 6 months. I have been clear about a year now. Will find the sheet of paper with food list on and get back to you.

This may only work however if condition is brought on by aspirin/codeine. Give it a go though.

Foods to be avoided.........

Peas

tinned soups

blackcurrants

apples

bananas

grapes

rhubarb

jam or jelly of above flavours

beer

wine

cider

apple drinks

blackcurrant squash

dried fruits

cakes biscuits or chocolate with dried fruit in

eg Xmas pudding

fruit and nut chocolate

muesli type cereal

vinegar

bottled sauces containing vinegar eg tomato sauce, brown sauce, salad cream, Mayo,

pickles

it worked for me.... Good luck.

And I understand how the itching drives you insane! My sympathies.

Thanks very much for that advice, I'll make a note of what to avoid but am pretty sure it's stress related - I hope so as I seem to love everything on that list! Thanks again, Z
