I hope this doesn't come across offensively but one of our local night clubs had a gay night where you will often see TV/TS. I wonder if, for the first experience, you should go to something similar to see how you feel?

I'm not by any means suggesting you should be obligated to or anything malicious but the general public can be horrible at times.

What are you thinking of?

Drive round, dressed,

Walk round a deserted area, dressed,

Friendly pub,

General pub?

All are good fun. I've found people to be friendly and accepting, but then I avoid rough pubs and the like

I thought hopefully getting out and about the gay clubs etc to start, I have thought about going to somewhere quiet for a walk but not sure how I'd feel if I saw people, I think with a few drinks and around similar modes people it could be fun to let my hair down so to speak

My first time out dressed for a drink was to a beach bar at night, when I was a teenager. I had some friends there with me, and we had a good time/laugh, great dancing and I got a lot of attention from the guys. What probably helped there was that others were around and could be supportive - it was probably unusual. It was not a gay or trans bar, just a standard club on the beach.

For someone just starting out with dressing in public, I'd suggest that you start small and take little steps. You won't get overwhelmed with anxiety, and each time you'll have previous experience behind you, helping to give you confidence.

Go out to the wilds, where the chance of seeing someone is fairly limited. Go out in the dark, where you possibly stand out less. Walk a few paces, increasing by a few paces each time.

Others have suggested gay places - this is generally a good idea but probably better if you're not the only trans person there. Some places have regular customers in the same boat, others host meetings and clubs, so it's worth checking out where they are.

Once you've been out multiple times, you will feel more comfortable each time and start to forget how it once was for you.

Good luck!

I looked like a cross between Dick Emery & Kenny Everett the last time I tried walking in some

Good luck OP by the way

Pink punters in MK would be ideal shame it's so far away from. Promise you nobody would welcome you more.

As someone said, baby steps then get progressively more adventurous. I'm regularly out and about and one thing I've found is that I draw very little attention. Whether it's because generally people's attitudes are changing and nobody is overly worried about these things any more or I blend in. I personally think the key is to blend in rather than trying to be convincing. The world is full of different people and that's a good thing in my eyes.

Depending on how close you are to Manchester, there's an event in a few days called Sparkle. 10th-12th July 2015

Sparkle Fringe Wed 8th to 15th. It's worth checking out, as well as other get togethers that happen regularly in Manchester and the north west.

Your in North West though I dont know exactly where. If canal street is within easy reach its a no brainer. You'll be part of the crowd instantly. Plus it's a bloody good laugh even for a straighty like me lol.

Good luck

Thanks guys and girls, I'm getting more tempted to go out late at night somewhere quiet for a walk, after all I need to practice walking in heels like you say!

I'm going to check the events and socials to see if anything comes up there too. Manchester isn't too far for me so I could drive and get a hotel, would be a bit daunting to go out alone, would be so much better if I had someone or a group to go out with.

On Chix there is a social calendar. Ref walking in heels, it's not good practicing at home on a carpet, as it is very different on a hard surface

There's is indeed sparkle coming soon and there is concorde as well. A lot of tgirls go to Napoleons just off canal street so get yourself down there when your ready. Even in the village though I've had comments from knobheads. Although attitudes have changed a lot still have to expect some idiots.

I love going out with my TV friends, we mainly go to the gay quarter in Leeds (I usually go there on a night out anyway as its friendlier) when we go to non-gay bars they get lots of attention and it's all positive any if any of it isn't I'm guilty of being more sensitive than them! The sexiest thing is confidence - make out like you do it all the time and are comfortable in yourself and noone will bother you

First time out I hit the town and ended up having a good night, becareful as you may get a good kicking.....it happens!

So choose a local LGBT pub or contact a local group who usually have someone to come help you in from the car park.

Stay safe .

It's a shame some people have such a shallow _iew on people who are anything other than straight, it's a shame everyone can't express themselves more freely in public instead of having to hide away in fear of being judged. I sometimes wonder that the ones who are homophobic are battling their own sexuality insecurities?

Well if more Trans people grew a back bone and stood up then issues such as hate crimes would be past times.

Time and time again i stand alone to fight the haters off and that takes its toll..

It's quite a buzz being the one pursued by men. And some women for that matter. I find myself full of confidence, feeling I'm the one saying yes or no.

It's always quite exciting stepping out into the real world dressed as a girl but it's a thrill I love so I keep doing it.

South of Sleaford

I go out in the day to day world often, shopping, pubs, restaurants, hotels.

I have never had any sort of problem. The key is to dress in a realistic way. Study what women of your age wear in the time and place you want to go out. If you wear 4 inch heels you are going to draw attention to yourself. The next thing is to be confident, easier said than done. If you look fearful or ill at ease you will attract attention.

Best of Luck!

I try to dress for what a lady my age would for the location and time of day, but I get a few looks due to my shape. However, if I toned down my bust to blend in better, then I wouldn't be me.

So...... I have now been out in public dressed albeit nowhere busy yet, I've done as suggested above and went out in my car to start, then I got braver and went somewhere quiet in the dark. I got out of the car and had a little walk around, it felt good but very nervy! I have been out again since, this time in daylight. I'm now tempted to go out with the chance of passing someone. Xxx

If you're in London, there's Bombshell at Shadow Lounge on Wednesday that's very T friendly.

There's also Legs on Thursday and Saturday if you're looking for more 'action'
