Ok now this really got me mad today.

I dont often ring the council to help with the removal of large unwanted items. They took my old mattress earlier this year. ring them up and they come and shift it early on bin day.

So anyways, i need another mattress and a sofa removing so called them up and guess what !

I now have to fooking pay for the privelage. its cost me £20 for them to come and shift it.

I was fuming. but had to pay or just dump it which i wouldnt have done.

But no doubt, others are gonna if they have to pay per item .

Hence fly tipping getting worse.

Crazy !

are you only entitled to 1 bulky uplift - up here (with certain councils) you can get 3 or 4 per year then have to pay

Apparantly they started charging form the 6th september but failed to notify anyone.

Anything you want shifting now, you have to pay for

The council took your old mattress and sofa from your doorstep for just £20 and you're complaining???

Did you ring round for a better quote or do you already know that's a pretty good deal?

Geez.

I dont mind the charge , what im saying is. we should have been notified. thats what i pay my kin council tax for anyways.

And thats is also why people will resort to fly tipping , they wont pay

There are people who fly tip when collection is free - is a £20 charge going to make all the difference?

Government has decided councils are not allowed to raise council tax for 2 years - some of them are going to decide they have higher priorities than collecting peoples junk for free.

End of the day, most people are disinclined to break the law and will just pay the charge like you did. Councils know this - i suspect so do you.

Well you dont know them round here then. all ready fly tipping in the country lanes all over and they have to clear it which costs a hell of a lot more to the council.

and yes i do object to the charge on the grounds of the council wasting big chunks of tax payers money on re decorating their bloody council building yet again. 3rd time this year.

So you object to a few rolls of wallpaper for an office you'll never visit so that they can come and collect your unwanted items at no expense to yourself? You bought the new stuff and you expect who exactly to come and get your old crap? A council worker earns a wage each month, who should pay that man to collect your unwanted junk? Me and my tax? Sod that.

I pay enough of my own tax to let them come and fetch it. and considering ive been in this house 30yrs and this is the second time i have asked them to come and fetch stuff.

Next time im gonna do what the others do and dump it out side and forget about it.

Torquay

Since the introduction of Landfill Tax councils have to pay a levy to dispose of stuff (like matresses) that they cannot recycle.

The only option for councils is to charge per item or raise your council tax to cover all their collections.

Like i said...

It came as a shock as no one had any notice they were going to charge and yes i fully understand the principal behind it.

What happens if you dont have the money to dispose of things is my worry.

People will just dump it and be damned .

If , like my mate , you dont have any spare cash at all, well your truly fooked.

Errrm... if you don't have money to dispose of your old stuff then why would you have money to buy new stuff?

In the south west we never have had large items collected for free, so you were lucky.

Have to squeeze items in car or borrow van or even pay.
