"I'm concerned male referees are being disregarded for a job because of their gender at the World Cup, I hope I'm wrong and it's not all women there. Outrageous if so though isn't it?!" I assume from your original post that you were equally outraged at women referees being disregarded for a job because of their gender at the last male World Cup? If your outrage only goes one way then I have no sympathy with it.

"When women start to referee men's games men can referee women's games I have no idea why I'm getting involved in a football thread " Id hope the eye for an eye idea would be outdated. Wouldn't you like women to show the way it should be?...I hope other women disagree with your approach.

Some people, often men but not always, get angry/upset/outraged if women get roles they imagine as men's, even when the rest of the game (in this case) is gendered. They feel the same outrage on behalf of the men who are 'done out of' a job by it being given to a woman in the opposite gendered game. My question is why should it be the women's game that has to lead the way? Guarantee me that women get the same chance in the male game and there's not a problem but if it's more jobs for the boys at the expense of the rare chance for women I see this as sexism.

"what i find sad is that there are so few women managers.. " Yeah I agree, was good news when that team in Portugal appointed a female coach, pity it didn't go ahead for whatever reason- could have been a real breakthrough for more women coaches

"what i find sad is that there are so few women managers.. " I found it sad that when I started a thread about the Women's World Cup most of the early posts were about what an inferior game it was. Not that it's a different game but that it's not even worth watching. Of course it's never likely to reach 175 posts unless England make it to the final and even then it will limp through. I'm not a football fan and it's not something I watch, whether it's men or women playing, but I would have thought that for people who appreciate the game there must be something of interest there.

Theres that word again, equality. Can we not just accept that there are differences between the genders so theyll do different things, play different games...and yes, maybe ref their own games? What exactly is wrong with that??

" i've watched part of some games and have been impressed with the skill level, think the fitness goes without saying as most of the players are now professional.. the comparison will always be made by some that the female game doesn't live up to the male version and in some ways yes it isn't now but that doesn't mean it should be looked down on.. any thing that may inspire some young girls to participate in sport can only be good..

No, i believe men should ref mens games, and women ref womens games. Just leave it as is, nothing wrong with the way it is

" No, i believe men should ref mens games, and women ref womens games. Just leave it as is, nothing wrong with the way it is" if 'the ref' is qualified for the level the game is at then the gender matters not a jot or shouldn't matter..

You keep confusing this. I think the previous poster was saying any game, including the World Cups - both of them. You keep making it just the Women's World Cup. I realise there isn't a men's World Cup on at the moment but your making this just this current World Cup with your posts gives the impression that you think it's unfair that men aren't in the refereeing roles and not that you actually support women being in those roles, regardless.

" I can see why you think I'm confusing an issue....you didn't read the last paragraph of my opening post....or my support for more women coaches....or me saying men and woman can spot a free kick equally well. Maybe reading this will make my position less confusing to you if you post further

"To truly am into everyone getting a fair deal and by turning the sexism issue in its head here it was to test the water for women support when it's not necessarily to their advantage. The lack of support here surely highlights the same crap women have to deal with when fighting for more women representatives (be it the boot room or board room) Be good if we eradicated it affecting both sides - worth discussing I thought." It would be great if we eradicated it affecting both sides but you must see that one side has further to go to achieve equality in the first place?

You either believe in it or not in my opinion.

To reduce the opportunities for women further, by making them go first, does not guarantee that women will be offered any opportunities in the men's game. In fact, it could well make it less likely as there would be even fewer of them with the experience of a World Cup on the basis that there are already so many more male referees with World Cup experience. Equality of opportunity isn't achieved by treating everyone the same.

" What if the female ref can't keep up with the pace of the male players? What I find funny is if you got rid of "gendered" sports you'd instantly remove women from all physical sports entirely.
