"it looks good...I'd prefer it if it was linked to the amazing c4 film Ex-machina."

Downloaded but not watched it yet.

On my 'to do list' this week.

We've set Humans for series record. I'm in two minds whether to watch it weekly or wait for the whole series. Watching weekly stuff (like GOT) bugs the shit out of me.

I'm too impatient if it's a good show.

"Are robots that look human called androids? "

yes.

think commander data. an android will be an actual life form as opposed to a robot..which will only process whats programmed into it.

but a thinking machine would not actually need the constructs of a physical body(obviously something physical for its power source), but it can occupy itself in cyber space..and also download/stream to a physical body if needed.

I must admit I have a few reservations: why did they let that Katherine Parkinson have one? She's never been good at comp-yer-ters, and after that business with the internet...

Surely when she applied for one, they should have remembered this:

https://youtu.be/3ImFrTq3hNg

Still, I'm sure I'm just being melodramatic, what could possibly go wrong....

I didn't think Ex-Machina was that good. The ex even fell asleep at the cinema watching it (and I had to keep explaining what happened).

"I'm not watching , my question is it an inevitably ?"

AI?

two theories, either we can transfer ourselves into data

or we actually make a proper AI

It will question the very nature of the universe as to my thinking it would mean a new life form being created as an observer in the universe surely has some meaning on what is truly hidden from us, especially if theres a belief in the anthropic principle.

we shouldnt be able to get energy from nowhere should we?-an actual AI, might uncover more than we could possibly know about this funny universe place.

its just a robot really...thats what I dont like I suppose, as thats about replacing a persons role and giving it to something unnecessary, because it is 'cost effective' looks great etc etc...

with my current thinking there is more chance of us making an actual lifeform via AI than us meeting aliens anytime soon.

lets just add a 50year period onto what we have now technology wise...we might not look like we are in those wonderfully depicted 50s sci-fi movies..but we are getting close..and in some ways..surpassed some of those madcap notions...

Looks canny but think it'll never be reality as why make a humanoid robot to park your car or push a lawn mower when the car could park it's self and the mower cut the lawn it's self. The same old robots-becoming-human plot that has been a sci-fi staple since the genre’s earliest days.

Valid point, the entire doomsday scenario could be avoided if we stuck to making specialised robots rather than multi tasking humanoids. Unless we starting making specialised military robots.

I really enjoyed watching the first episode. In terms or eerieness it sits somewhere between I, Robot (not eerie at all) and A.I (pretty creepy).

Good program, would be interested to see the original Swedish 'Real Humans' that it is based on.

Much as some aspects are common to most Sci-Fi involving AI the teenage daughter's view of humans beciming redundant may not be as far away as we think.

We are surrounded by AI, Google Maps route finder and MS Cortana being two examples.

Read an article reciently that suggested that it will nt be long before some jobes start to be replaced by AI systems. It suggested that this could start with jobs which are heavily rule based, such as some HR functions. The idea being that sych systems would free up humans to deal with the more complicated issues. However what happens to the people currenlty doing the jobs that these AI systems replace?

I dont see HR being the main problems with automation...we live in a world where gigantic complex structures can be designed and printed...

Meat will be grown from cells and probably cause a massive collapse in agriculture

the future is bright, its inevitible..but I suppose the main thing is we need to learn to value humans not just as work slaves..and see it as a challenge to enhance each others creativity..

sadly...most will be watching big brother in space 3..well I know shag will...

Perhaps the singularity is coming, whether it results in judgment day will depend on how we react to it, or more importantly those supposedly in control react to it.

I watched the second episode with a bit of boredom...

it does have similarities with almost human(which I enjoyed better)..but upon watching the second episode I cant help but think its typical cheap british sci-fi-drama.

the androids are far too advanced tech to be in the environments they are in..for some reason, nobody has decided to make better looking cars etc etc...so in effect its really just a bog standard drama with sci-fi elements thrown in.

I never really enjoyed the other popular british shows like being human etc..they all really fail for me..

"Good program, would be interested to see the original Swedish 'Real Humans' that it is based on.

Uh-Oh! Judgement Day's coming

Perhaps the singularity is coming, whether it results in judgment day will depend on how we react to it, or more importantly those supposedly in control react to it.

One day FaceBook will become self aware. Then we're all fucked."

Time to move to Mexico

third episode..a little better..but still...constantly filmed in 'urban' areas..

someone has it in their head that contrasting the characters against urban environments is really quite arty, and smart.

its just cheap.

Hit post _

It's where something is close enough to human that we start looking for all the tiny little signals and features we see in other humans but they're absent so it makes your brain go "there's something wrong with this person and I'm uneasy about them"

Where as something that's clearly not human but shows broad facial expressions (think shrek) that we interpret at human but without being close enough to human that we start looking for all the little things were perfectly comfortable with.

You can't say that now because it's been on for months now and should be coming to an end very soon you've missed the major episodes and don't know the story line

plot hole:

in the company of the 'normal' synths - our sentient ones should be outed for not sharing...I think they have missed this in a few scenes across the series....

I still think Extant and Almost Human are the better programmes featuring AI stuff..the cheapness of humans and in your face artiness/symbolism annoys me each week.

Sundays programme was acted quite shitley...esp the cockney copper...Oh and the twist at the end...who didnt see that coming? lol

*Extant season two has just started YaY

I've noticed that there's an AI trend in shows or films.

Watched Ex Machina last week. That was good. As is The Machine.

Humans seems a bit dull in comparison.

its getting duller.

though those are both movies I'd point out..

I prefer the realized future world of ex-tant..

as I've mentioned previously, Humans is just cheap and semi-arthousy trash

We sort of got an ending to the question of 'will they all get together and share the knowledge?', the police-woman love interest ended nicely. The family may or may not feature in the next series since Niska may, or may not, have a copy of the data. We now know the implications of the downloady-thingy, but whether anything comes of this will be in series two. I doubt it'll be a world-wide thing, but I can see them using it to write in a couple of new robots to add to their group.

And pay attention Lickety, Laura gave them a big wad of dosh in the bandstand (the returned deposit on Mia)

So they're now all fixed, have cash, and back on the run.

Trouble with series two is always that the novelty of the concept will have worn off a little, but we liked it

I forgot about the cash. I got caught up in the cliche of the train and the set up of data loss.

I don't think it was very novel but I watch things like this because I generally like them.

We liked the characters, and all the little details and the really clever acting. But I do worry series two may just turn into a basic 'bad-guys hunting underground-group' cliché.

I'm inclined to agree. I don't know if they're following the Swedish series storylines, or if it will take its own course.

The synths acting stole the show. Awesome.

How much money would you need, to just be let loose in the world - no home, clothes, job etc?

It was ok.

Wouldn't watch the whole thing again.

There'll be a season 2 and then it'll get cancelled. Just like Utopia did. And that was better.

Also, there'll be a US version I'll bet.

The last episode looked like it was re written to provide a secondition series. There were a few questions though that we couldn't answer.

Why were the synths wearing gloves when none of the humans were?

How come two red heads had three kids and not a red hair between the children ?

Sci Fi always misses the details

a crucial aspect is EVERY programmed non-concious synth can tell a human from a synth...so the (wont spoil),hidden character synth would have been spotted ages ago...as the synth would say "why dont you share?"

just watched the last one, its what I expected..nothing special, nothing unspecial..almost really the same ending as exmachina

the swedish one(has some differences such as women are the bread winners in society),and thats onto its 2nd season I think...a few possible spoilers I've seen already...depending on whether the c4 one is closeish plotwise.

ooh...everyone is going on about gemma chan..I prefer niska(emily berrington)...phoaaarrr those eyes
