I watched the first 2 or 3 then kind of slipped behind with it and never caught up. I take it it's worth sticking with then?

Person of Interest is just about Sci-Fi. If you can get past the initial few slow episodes it becomes, by season 4, probably the best show on TV right now. Fantastic treatment of AI and topical with its discussions around privacy and government surveillance. It's produced by Christopher Nolan and is genuinely thought provoking stuff. S1-3 on Netflix. S4 just finished in the US and available via various means. S5 just got picked up for 13eps so we'll see it ending soon enough.

Props to the other suggestions too, although much as I love B5 the first season is really tough to get through (totally pays off by S3-4 however with LOTR derived awesomeness).

"What, no one want to even suggest Star Wars?"

Star wars not a tv series yet unless you count the clone wars and rebels animated series on kids channels. Live action tv series based in star wars universe in the planning i believe.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

Just finished watching Star Trek: Enterprise on BluRay. Some good stories set before ST:TOS with Kirk, Spock & Bones.

Check out Star Trek Continues, a fan made series with new actors & some great guest stars such as Colin Baker (the 6th Dr Who). Google it for the link to the site or find it on YouTube. There's also Star Trek Phase II.

Also just had a binge of Star Trek Next Gen with all the Borg episodes. Might follow up with ST Voyager episodes featuring the Borg.

Or a binge on Walking Dead. Just don't get too attached to any of the characters.

Fringe is one of my favourites. Although I'm currently about to re watch all the x files.. although not sure it counts as syfy but a huge supernatural fan.

Also love all the stargate series x

on the road to nowhere in particular

Babylon5 by a long way

The prequel to the original Star Trek series had a major continuity error concerning the Klingons

The original series with William Shatner still holds up.
