I guess they're worried that of you're not you will tell their OH.

It was bloody ironic when the psychic fair I was going to was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances !

It is not ironic but it does sound like a sensible question whether the person is married or not. I would not be too quick to arrange a meeting with someone who was less than discreet

I don't see the irony, in fact it's sort of what I'd expect. If there is any irony it's the fact that you don't.
