That's kind of what I was getting at suggesting re measurement! e.g. 40DD would be roughly the same in volume as 36F but mine look way smaller to me than the OP's!

DD is not a very large cup size but people seem to think it is because it's a double. So no I'd say its smallish for here. I'm 36F and I don't consider that too large. If anyone does then they can always pass on by.

isnt the cup size the difference between the under boob measurement against the over widest part measurement - therefore someone with a narrower back and slimmer frame would have a larger cup size - makes no odds to me i never wear a bra to need to know

I would say most men would say there's no such thing as too big.

As a woman I'd say they're only too big if they are a problem for you, or you think they're too big.
