"Just watched a new horror film/documentary called The Nightmare, about sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis happens when your body shuts down from exhaustion but your mind is still on. In the film there are 8 interviewees that suffer from it and tell you about the horrific experiences they go through every night - not being able to physically move any part of your body, sensing evil presences in the room, seeing dark shadows or alien-like creatures creeping in, hearing really loud scary voices....and apparently there's a pain factor too. Women feeling like they're being raped by unknown beings and men getting their privates ripped to shreds by giant metal claws! Good film doco but fuck me I felt sorry for the people going through it! Most of them have had to deal with it their whole lives as well. Really scary shit " That's mad! Poor people

"My best friend has this but it can go two ways. When it's paralysis it's bad and horrible but when he's lucid dreaming he can control his dreams making for some fantastic ones. " I sometimes have lucid dreams. I can self hypnotise into lucid state. I can also wake up to go to the loo or get a drink and then go back to sleep and re-start the dream where I left off. It's so vivid that I often have to check the house to make sure noone is there before I can get back to bed. Apparently part of one of the stages of sleep is your brain puts you in a form of paralysis so you can rest. Usually you are in deep sleep by this point but some of us get it at the wrong stage of sleep. I also get the opposite where my brain doesn't paralyse me so I walk in my sleep too. As you can imagine I can be a joy to sleep with
