I like cars, but am no expert.

But with an alfa it's about the driver. If you drive an auto you aren't necessarily going to "get" the mito, and may be better with an easier and cheaper car to look after, like a fiesta.

Ayrshire

Shares it's chassis with the fiat punto and vauxhall corsa, build quality still suspect, I regularly travel in a 1.4 one.

The owner has had a few problems with the electric windows, central locking and a door handle.

It's a brilliant little car and the auto-box is rock solid (unlike the much maligned but quite brilliant Selespeed box on the old 156's and 147's).

The key with all Alfa's is servicing. Never skip a service, especially the timing belt and water pump services (make sure the dealer changes the tensioners too, many don't and it can result in a failure). It's also worth changing the oil between services too, I do mine every 6k miles.

It shares the floorplan, not the chasis. It actually the old Fiat Tipo floorplan, but that's me being pedantic.

The selenia stuff is bloody expensive.

Thanks, I am looking about. Only looking at a small auto motor. The fiesta ... is a fiesta, and as much as it has decent mpg I don't like the idea of only having 4 gears, and apparently they are very clunky at low speeds. The WV polo without dsg has average mpg but the interior looks bland as hell. The dsg version looks a lot better but I prefer the Alfas styling atm.

The Alfa just popped into my head so thought I'd see if anybody had any thought's, thanks. Is the rear visibility rear lip that much of a problem?

oh, I haven't discounted the fiesta btw - its a good looking car, just 4 gears is ... off putting

"The selenia stuff is bloody expensive. "

It's either that or Fuchs which is better), they're the only two oils that meet all the specs for the engine.

I'd also suggest you avoid the main dealer network for repairs or servicing, they have a nasty habbit of invoicing for things they've not changed and also ignoring obvious issues that can cause issues later. For example the didn't change my air filter or pollen filter (but charged) and also 're-fitted an absolutely mangled sump plug that took me an hour to remove, when a new one would have only cost £3!

I would be careful the mite has a number of problems the most dangerous being the power steering electric motor stops working with no warning at all!

That was a recall and shouldn't be an issue now.
