Sorry to sound off folks but.....

2 days ago. At 3 am my girlfriend was woken up by a loud bang in the night. It was 5 young men kicking in the french window. After they ransacked downstairs they left with minor belongings and 2 sets of car keys, one belonging to her son who was staying. They casually reved the cars up on the drive before making off with them. She and her son and his girlfriend were left shaken and terrified. These young men were not afraid of being confronted or our useless law enforcement system.

Its one of those things you think will never happen to you.

What are your thoughts...and I am being serious now,,about what we should do with scum like this.

An horrendous experience I should imagine, and I hope your girlfriend and her son manage to get over the shock.

But..... did you expect some of our 'useless law enforcement' officers to be sitting at the bottom of your road just in case an offence took place?

Violent crime is never a nice thing but it's pretty difficult for the police to act unless they happen to be right there when the robbery takes place.

I have a lot of South African friends who all say that burglaries in the UK don't worry them - if someone breaks into their houses to steal stuff they can sell down the pub, then that's fine as the home insurance will cover it. Back in South Africa, however, they said it is common for burglars to break into a property when the occupants are asleep, they then wake them up and demand to know where all the valuables are kept before killing them.

As unpleasant as it clearly was for your girlfriend to be burgled, at least she and her family weren't physically injured or worse.

Bottom line of of is this ....

The police can bust their bollox to find and charge criminals, then the said criminals appear in 'court' only to get away with a piss poor punishment which rarely matches the severity of the crime or reflects the effect which it has upon the injured party.

It's high time the entire judicial system was brought into line with 21st century way of thinking.

if it was down to me it would be a public flogging, beat the fuckers within an inch of thier lives.

however our system will only catch them and get a result if they get caught on a speed camera whilst making off with the two cars!

its not the polices fault as this country is now overpopulated with people you can only describe as scum

burglars, rapists, peadophiles, anti social now working layabout dropouts which are simply nothing more than a pimple on the arsehole of the universe.

only capital punishment will sort this shit country and its shit state out once and for all and the poxy government bussing in millions of asylum seekers to fill empty council blocks which create ghettos filth and crime.

we sympathise with you on your ordeal but can only see the trash that committed the crime getting a slapped wrist and thousands of pounds of tax payers money to be defended by the state in court.

Wow...that was one hell of a rant!

But to go back to the original post you made about 'Useless Law Enforcement"...

Aggrevated Burglary almost always results in a prison sentence in England and Wales, the stealing of a motor vehicle while involved in a burglary ALWAYS results in a charge of aggrevated burglary when the burglar/s is caught.

So the law is in place to charge and punish the burglars, we have a record amount of serving police officers in England and Wales to catch these burglars.....I should imagine that there is little else Law Enforcement officers and the legal system can do.

As I said it must be a horrifying experience to endure but you made the comments about our useless law enforcement and I addressed those comments, there are a record number of offenders in our prisons....what more do the public expect of the law in this country?

Are you a police woman or husband a policeman? You are obviously more offended than concerned. I used the term law enforcement 'system' not officers.

Just for the record. My best mate is a copper. The police who did come were very nice. nOt having a go at individual police..so get off ya soap box please

My anger is that these people see the police and the system in general as a joke. i know so many police who are frustrated about having to treat scum bags with respect whilst their hands are tied by legislation which would hammer them more than the real perputrators of crime. I dont know why i put this up. I m taking it down if I can work out how. Your answer has just rubbed salt in the wounds..picking over the clumsiness of words because YOu feel slighted. When or if it happens to you maybe you will understand the powerless feeling that we live in a country where people can break into your home in such large numbers ...take their time ..knowing you dare not confront them..and prisons are already too full to house them. Even if caught..what would they get? I find your remark about expecting police to sit at the bottom of the road callous and uncaring. Im sounding off through guilt and frustration because my girlfriend is in bits and constantly thinking about how nuch worse it could have been and I could nt be there to help..but anyway thanks for your understanding... ofcourse you could see I have used this whole thing as an exscuse to have a dig at coppers.

I truly wish I had never posted this now and can see its not going to help in any way and wish i knew now how to remove it.

Thankyou for those who posted supportive things. I know now, you should never post anything like this while your heads in turmoil.

So you want to execute burglars?, who next?......Shoplifters?, only they have affected me far more than any burglars.

Maybe we can all have a say in who gets put on death row....that way we can all get out our jollies out of executing people that most affect them with crime.

A little tyke threw a meat pie at my husband last weekend when he was working at Anfield stadium in Liverpool, can he put in a personal request to execute disgruntled fans?

if they executed murderers, peodos, terrorists and the like then there would be plenty more space in prison , and if they lashed the little shit that threw a pie at yer bloke then he wouldnt do it again would he!

shoplifters and burglars are one and the same in our book and would all be up for the standard 20 lashes in the town square

I wouldnt wish such an experience on anyone. The truth is that Crime Pays these days! Why go out and work for a living when they can rob an thieve for their money....

Weve been the victims of burglary (our business) and its not fun! The culprits when caught have had small fines or comunity service imposed as a punishment..... a mere smack on the wrist.... This Country is out of control, the police are frustrated with the justice system and feel their hands are tied.

Theres too many "Do Gooders" out there making laws that dont control the Criminals and dont provide the safety of normal Law abiding citizens.

Bring back National Service! Teach the younger generation values in life.

And for towns that don't have the benefit of a town square to flog burglars in.....we could put thousands of unemployed builders back to work building new town squares to facilitate them.

And unemployed carpenters to build all those gallows.....this is starting to sound like a great idea, and a possible pledge of a future Tory manifesto!

See....some good can come out of crime.

More important is the breakdown of our society that breeds people who think that this is an acceptable way to behave.

Brutal punishments won't stop them. What will is if they don't want to do it in the first place.

Don't ask me how we achieve this, but if young people could leave school, find a job and know that they could afford somewhere to live and raise a family without resorting to state handouts just to make ends meet then we might have a chance.

As it is, what future do most of them see?

Burglary and crime in general is not a new thing....we just catch more of them nowadays because of a modern police force and forensics.

Little known (or forgotten)fact but in Victorian times the prison population was almost as big as it was in 2007....so not a new phenomenon at all.

how do you know brutal wont stop them!

what do you class as brutal?

three meals a day a warm room with an x box and free gym membership is not my idea of brutal

i left school in the early 80s with no jobs and no future , a tory git named tebbit told me to get on my bike and look for work which i duly did 320 miles away from my beloved home.

deprevation and a failed system didnt make me go kick someones door in and rob them

haway whos for whipping and hanging ..we could start a pilot scheme off in sunderland?

Some bloke just got 18 weeks in jail for "casing distress" on facebook tribute pages for the likes of Jade Goody, and some baby who died.

Compare that to the scum who burgle, mug, rob and vandalise, who often get off with suspended sentences etc, and it becomes clear that the police and judicial system in this country are only interested in the "easy" convictions which take no effort to get a conviction on.

One friend, who had his house done over, was even told "off the record" by a police officer, that it wasnt "cost effective" to try and get a conviction for the scumbag (who openly admitted to having done the house) who not only took all his stuff, but trashed the house too.

Its all about figures, not justice.

BTW, I certainly dont condone what the guy did on facebook, just using it as an example.

No need to risk the professional soldier by teaming them up with scroats, keep the National Service scuzzbuckets in the UK, useful as a UK defence force while the good guys are away kicking butt, and also can be used as labour for natural disasters like flooding etc.

One thing good that would come of National Service is that many of these "scumbags" may in fact turn out to be useful citizens after a chance to turn their lives around, many old soldiers mention the fact that they were "tearaways" in their yoof, and a stint in the army pointed in the right direction.

Actually, no he didn't! What he did say (paraphrase) was that in the depression, his Dad got on his bike and looked for work! Don't believe everything the newspapers say, listen to the speeches if you want to use it!

Apart from that I agree broadly with your post. The dregs of society get way too much in prison and should be made to work, something meaningful and the full eight hours.
