Slightly worrying thought

As some of you are aware, my best mate has had a brain aneurysm.

Now I just have a nagging thought at the back of my mind. You know, the kind of thought you think when you're trying to get to sleep...

If anything like that happened to me, who would call the ambulance as I live alone?

I'm afraid you know the answer to that question.

Luckily the chance of it happening (or anything else for that matter) are pretty slim.

This happened in the block of flats in which I live, before I moved in I'll add. Apparently it was nearly 2 weeks before anyone noticed the smell

I moan about my family driving me mad but I can't be ill and no one noticed. If you don't have someone you talk to regularly then no alarms would be raised.

Anita sleeps like the dead, someone could come into the bedroom and kidnap me in the middle of the night and she'd know nothing about it until she read the ransom note in the morning...

I was worried about this for the first time last week when I was in pain and got taken to the hospital, luckily I was able to ring my mum who lives down the road and she came to my house to sit while my 4 year old was in bed but it did worry me that if it had been different and I had passed out or worse he wouldn't of found me till the morning and then he doesn't know how to call anyone so even my mum wouldn't of been suspicious anything was wrong until probably 9am and I hadn't replied to Her daily good morning text.

I think you can do that now.

I don't care if I die but I don't want to be languishing in pain for weeks unable to get help. My walls are thin enough that I think I'll be able to get the neighbours to rescue me.

they do have a system that you press to call someone in an emergency and they send someone round to assist you

My boss would be pissed off if I didn't turn up for work, sadly that is all I have to offer on this subject. Gawd now I'm depressed and gonna have to go and eat chocklit and sit in my garden all day. Alone.

a woman I work withs daughter had a heart attack last years she was only 34

lived alone, she hadn't seen her daughter for a few days which she though was odd as she used to pop in and call regular so she went round to her flat and found her dead in bed, they say she'd been dead for about 3 days

Whilst problems can happen at any age, and I know a single young mum who had a stroke, as we age the above type services could be invaluable, if we're still conscious and able to use them.

My boss died last week. He's married with kids. His wife and kids were away on holiday for half term : it was our busy time at work so he didn't go with them. He travels around the country so you don't always hear from him/know where he is.

His son found him: he'd been dead for about three days.

My friend woke up to find her husband dead beside her.

I woke up to find my son dead beside me.

Having someone there doesn't always make a difference.

Hello , sorry to but in X but..........

My Mum was on holiday in Blackpool for a ladies weekend and she's 74 mad as a hatter , anyway the woman 2 doors down from her came running out of her room shouting 'heads dead help i think he's dead'

turns out they'd been meeting up at the same hotel for 30 years and having a wicked time and he died on the job X

that's the way to do it , that's how i would like to go X big love and really sorry about your boss x

I totally understand where the op is coming from. Having lived with other people all my life, I now find myself alone for the first time and thoughts like this do pop up occasionally. I had chest pain before xmas. Turned out to be stress related but it made me think. There are so many others in similar situations too.

So sad to hear all your stories and thank you for sharing x
