Favourite BBQ dish

I'm sure with the sun shining there will be lots of BBQ's fired up tonight and over the weekend.

I'm going to a BBQ tomorrow night and fancied either making or buying something different to take with me.

What's your favourite food cooked on the BBQ or do you have a signature dish that you always make?

I'm currently into fresh tuna steak kebabs. I've also recently discovered some lovely Polish sausages at my local Deli. Plum tomatoes or chopped up celery with a dollop of Philadelphia in always seem to go down well too.

Burton upon stather

I stick with the classic quarter pound burger but with red onions, mexicana cheese, lettuce, tomato, HP honeysmoke BBQ sauce all served in an ASDA cheese topped bun With a side of coleslaw Which may or a not make it inside the roll mood pending and a cold can of carling to wash it down with.

Love fish on the bbq, salmon usually.

And veggies, like half a pepper, whole mushrooms etc so that they don't fall through the holes and don't require sticks lol all marinted in garlic, chili and oil.

Sides- I have to have egg potato salad. Basically make egg mayo, and mix it with boiled potatoes and chives. Yum.

Or a mixed bean salad. Mixed beans, sweet corn, diced onion and red pepper, parsley, olive oil, seasoning.

As a tangent - why do people have such an issue with having a BBQ without meat?

I'm cooking on the BBQ for my family on Sunday, I'm a vegetarian for health reasons. Now, nobody is ever going to go hungry at my house. I'll be cooking burgers packed with grilled veggies and halloumi, grilled vegetable salads of various kinds, some beautiful new potatoes out of the garden steamed, ALL the trimmings... home made... and yet still I'm getting texts 'do you mind if I bring some chicken for the BBQ? It's not really a BBQ without meat'.

Except... none of them have dietary concerns that mean they *have* to eat meat or they *can't* eat vegetables.

I get the impression sometimes that people think they might waste away and die if they don't have meat with every meal...

As I wrote above , hadn't read your post then. The host of the BBQ I'm going doesn't eat meat, but does eat fish. None of us going expect to eat meat as we'd feel guilty asking her to cook it on her barbecue for starters. She does do many lovely alternative dishes that I love her barbecues !

It's really nice and refreshing. Easier to drink and particularly good if you aren't a fan of the red on offer. Definitely one of my favorite summer drinks!

Funny tho ~ I've made veggie kebabs & burgers / salmon & prawn dishes for the non meat eaters at BBQ's and the blimin meat eaters dive in as well.

That's quite odd. I actually woke up a few minutes ago thinking of that drink - even though I've never d*unk it before. When I was younger in South Africa it was very popular amongst the Portuguese community who called it Katemba.

Halloumi, cherry tomato, pepper, onion and courgette kebabs. With bay twigs instead of skewers so the herb infuses from the inside. Spatchcocked poussin rubbed in chilli oil and stuffed with lemon. Massive bowls of Greek salad. Lots of nice meaty things. Damn, now I'm hungry.

Oh, chilli dogs as well. They rock!

Love a whole fish. Trout, Seabass something like that. Looks great and tastes lush if stuffed with lemon and fresh herbs.

Served with a fruity cous cous salad.
