Should the wards to Russia and Qatar be suspended pending the investigations into corruption at FIFA?

Not really much point. An investigation of this magnitude could potentially take years. Asking another country to step in a the lasting the would cause chaos.

i think Qatar has already put to much money into it to lose the event, and in fairness if they get to hold it why should'nt russia.

as to just suspending it i dont think that would make any difference i cant see how they could go back on the award of the events, even if they were awarded fraudulently

Of course the awards can be rescinded if they were fraudulently awarded!

UK could host a World Cup tomorrow.....so could most European countries like Germany, Italy, Spain etc. facilities already here. 2018 sorted as Russia will be boycotted by many with Putin in current mode. Qatar is a stupid and wrong idea on so many levels. By 2022 easy for a civilised country to take on....7 years lead time...USA?

1400 workers killed so far in 5 yrs of building work in Qatar. How many more in next 7 years if it carries on?

Need to send a signal that bribery and corruption is no longer acceptable.

It's a nightmare that won't get sorted. Both Qatar and Russia in all likelihood are guilty of bribery but so was south Africa and France 98 according to latest reports.

Both countries have spent a fortune so difficult to take off them. Need to just get it right going forward

Richard Cabon makes a good point that now Blatter and his cohorts are or will be out of the way the first thing the new FIFA president should do is publish in full the Garcia report and if the next to awards are found to be corrupt then should be re run.

The amount of time it would take the lawyers to argue and counter argue, it would be better served to leave the status quo and punish the relevant FA's retrospectively.

It's taken FIFA years to introduce something so simple as goal line tech'! How long would a legal battle for something so monumental as a World Cup award retraction take?

GB will not host a World Cup for at least a generation as the African & Asian confederations have long memory's & we are seen as the leaders in the ousting of Blatter who is seen as their friend . We will never get sufficient votes or backing .

Some journalist on Talksport on Monday I think, said that 2018 will be in England and 2022 in the USA. It wasn't his opinion, he said he knew this to be the case.

This may sound overly dramatic, but taking the World Cup away from Russia would have serious implications for world peace. Tensions are already high and I think Putin could use this as an excuse to re-establish the old USSR empire that he clearly wants.

True. His excuse for going into Crimea was the same as used by Hitler to start WW2 when he invaded the Sudetenlands of Czechoslovakia.

The 2 are inextricibly linked. Who is going to make the decision to take the awards away? FIFA is a lame duck organisation for the next 18 months. What jurisdiction does any other body have to say no to Russia and Qatar? If a state does move to take away the world cup, particularly from Russia it will be viewed as aggressively anti-Russian and one would expect a response. All of these factors will be being thought through. Would anyone really want to risk an armed conflict over football??

I expect 2018 to stay with Russia and maybe a change to the Qatar award, but it will take a very strong new FIFA leadership team to do that.
