Feeling old?

Birmingham

Just been sat thinking that in four weeks time, I am leaving my current netball team to go play for another team much lower in the divisions (the lowest division). I have played for over twenty years but I can no longer compete with the 18 year olds flitting around the court like new born gazelles. Injury and now age has taken its toll and I am gutted. The good news is that my new team are fantastic. They play for fun and never win and I am looking forward to it.

Anyway, the question is, is there anything you have had to give up as A result of getting older?

That's a very good question.

As I've gotten older I've given up being able to not worry about tomorrow I think is the main thing.

I've given up all day playing games, I used to be a pretty hardcore gamer but its not practical as an adult.

I gave up my virginity, was sad to see that go

Gave up riding horses. Had them for over twenty years, even had sleighs in the snow. Lots of trail riding, carts.

Move around too much now. Too costly to get one on Ryanair.

.Play tennis

.Might as well say any sport

.Squat

.Remember where I'm going

.Tolerate noise

.I'm giving up now,I'm depressing myself

That's sad. So it's not so much age as logistics and expense? You must miss it though.

I find I am forgetting where I put things or put things in totally the wrong place. Shampoo in the fridge and a pint of milk in the bathroom kind of thing!

I forgot I had the car and walked home from the shop with my shopping. I remembered the car was outside the shop as I got to the front door.

Me too

As of this coming season I officialy become a 'veteran' hockey player.

I will be the youngest on the team by a long way but it's the title of playing for the veterans that doesn't help lol

For me it's recovery time-I mean from injuries

I used to play football 4/5 times a week no problem, recovering from injuries on a Saturday and along on a Sunday.

It takes me weeks to get over a little knock now

little house on the praire

The fact that my baby is now having his own baby.

Someone said to me the other day mmm your older than you look.

Loving quiet nights with just me and the cats.

Sitting back and enjoying watching the young ones do what I used to do.

But on a plus, having lost loads of weight I'm doing far more than I did ten years ago.

Much fitter and more active.

I gave up my amateur boxing career at the sweet age of 22 when I discovered the delights of wine women and more wine..i do feel like making a comeback sometimes but I would most proberly end up a cabbage in a very short time..so I just count my blessing now that I am still fairly fit at my age and i still have a few brain cells left that function quite well..im now happy to watch the younger fellas knock fuck out of each other in the ring from the comfort of my armchair and reminisce of days gone by

Yeah that's my issue. I broke both ankles five or so years ago and it's been a slippery slope ever since.

I'm lucky that I've never had a bad one * touches wood but also as you get older, the longer you sit injured, the more difficult it is to get going again.

It's also easier to put weight on and lose your fitness

Good for you with regard to the weight loss etc. That's fabulous to read. I enjoy my own company more these days and the peace and quiet now that the kids have all left home (well for the most part).

I'm in the process of going to a different place of work ( second job!!) which is one that fitness is a major part of what is expected ? I'm lucky enough to be able to use my experience as my selling point to get there ! Sometimes a bit of experience helps the fitter people !

I hope lol
