So about this time last night they was a power cut. Nothing exciting about that. No electrical storms or any weird weather...

So... Why did some car alarms go off?

I Googled it and it seems to be a regular thing

Sure it wasn't house alarms?

House alarms have a backup battery but they only last 5 years. If they are not replaced when there is a power cut the alarm senses the lose of power because the backup battery failed and the sounder goes on the desperate backup battery in the bell box

Crook wants to break into your house, but spots the alarm, so, in an attempt to disable it, he cuts the power to it.

So Alarm manufacturers have planned for such an eventuality - which is why they go off during a power cut

Is it because the streets are darker and someone chances their arm with nicking a car?

I think you'd better continue reading the posts you found, rather than us all searching.

I don't know what caused the power cut, though maybe the same cause. Or were they electric cars?
