Cheeseville, Somerset

The advert for the new LG OLED 4K TV.

Going on and on about how advanced it is and showing how great the picture quality is.

How do you know? You're probably sat watching it on a two year old LCD/LED. Or maybe you're one of those eccentrics sat with an old 26" CRT box? Or maybe you've still got the 14" B&W you inherited from your gran 20 years ago?

The point being if you're not already the proud owner of an LG OLED 4K TV then the picture will only be as good as the TV you're watching it on can generate.

Utterly, utterly pointless.

Meh!!

Even worse is nothing broadcast at the moment is recorded in that standard if I'm not mistaken.

Clever marketing so n so's at LG HQ will have the gullible believe it's the TV that you MUST have. Oh and we'll charge you 1000's for the privilege of mugging the consumer off.

Theres quite a bit of 4K acquisition going on, mainly drama as it future proofs it and the increase in production/post production cost isn't significant (unless there is complex SFX work to be done).

There is very little 4K transmission currently in the UK, BBC are starting to try it out but everything else will be down converted.

4k will get here eventually, Sky will probably push ahead first to replace the abandoned 3D channels with 4k films and sport channels.
