Tony Blair.......Again !!

He reportedly turned down the offer of £125,000 from a charitable organisation to give a twenty minute speech since they wouldn't meet his demand for £330,000.

Ironically the theme of the speech was 'How to feed the world's poor'.

And of course it also begs the question what the he'll is a charity doing paying out a fee of that size.

You couldn't make it up as the saying goes ??

I wouldn't have thought he was that inspirational a speaker, to be honest. Dennis Skinner is, he speaks from the heart, whereas Blair doesn't have that.

Charity is the biggest con. I would like to believe a bit reaches its destination but someone somewhere gets richer and richer.

Blair's appearance would have attracted 'bigger fish' to the donations table and, in any case, Blair has a history of passing the fee for such events onto charity.

Of course you have to ask why Blair hasn't accepted the traditional offer of a peerage since departing as PM (the only other exception being Major).

It may have less to do with his supposed modesty, or having no need of such medieval trappings and more to do with the fact that peers have to declare their earnings and investments.

He's done very well from doing 'good' - I'm sure a few crumbs to some charities makes him feel a little bit more smug inside.

Well he's now the new chairman of the European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR).

I wonder if that extends to reconciling the mess he helped start in the middle east...

..and I had money on Fifa chairman.
