"Just thinking out loud Other than prostitution, can anyone think of anything which is illegal but law enforcement turn a blind eye too? Far from proud of it, but a family member used to work as a receptionist in a brothel. As I understood it, as long as the girls were of age and not illegal, then the Police were not interested. I cant think of any other activity or market which is illegal but not heavily enforced. I accept you see people getting prosecuted from time to time but it doesn't seem often." prostitution isnt illegal.

"Being a prostitute is legal, performing the act for money is illegal" Is that your State or US law? It isn't the case here in the UK.

I do believe Tony Blaire started an illegal war which resulted in many deaths this has been ignored and no prosecution

"Using a mobile while driving is rarely enforced Recreational drug use at many festivals is widespread and police make little more than a token gesture to stop it" Ha bloody was with me , something I'm not proud of and haven't done since. 3 points and £60 later. Was 4 years ago now.

"Sadly Casual racism and homophobia is turned a blind eye to and tolerated far too often by a large majority of the public. " Have to say, I dont tend to experience many probs as A TGirl in public. And dont know many (if any) racist friends. I think a lot of the problem is caused by how you relate to others,as to wether you are accepted, if that makes sense.x

"seeing cocaine used in a public place and seeing used in a club i used to go to " Think even a forensic scientist would have a slight problem identifying cocaine in a night club by sight. Think the DPP would not consider a 60% conviction possibility feasable in the case of an arrest. You would be pretty safe with even a poor defence barrister . x

One of our kids said he didn't want to wear something as it " looked gay" although he is only 8 years old he was still told it was not acceptable to use the term as he did and it was explained to him why.

"Smokers dropping ash in public - I'm assuming none of them have ever been charged with littering. There are probably thousands of small local bylaws that aren't enforced much, many of them relating to older customs." i got fined £75 for dropping a cigar butt (degradable) out my car window while stuck in traffic....so yes, these things do get enforced from time to time... or maybe the community copper just didnt like the look of me or the jeep or whatever

I'm guessing cops would find gathering microscopic dust as evidence not to be worth it. Also, if someone was a bit wheezy and breathed out some saliva, shouldn't that be a spitting offence?

"Drivers who do not allow enough room when overtaking cyclist because they don't think that cyclists deserve to be even on the road at all!" I feel your pain - I drive cars, LGV, and ride motorcycle and MTB - I try to do all those things (not at the same time obviously), responsibly and safely. I see outrageous behaviour and lack of competence/consideration from all quarters.

People drop things that do bio-degrade but don't realise how long it takes. A common one is banana skins, which take two years to degrade. An apple core takes two weeks. A cigarette butt takes between 18 months and 10 years depending on the conditions and where it has been dropped. Litter is litter.

" Fair comment, but banana skins and apple cores are organic, they will decay naturally supporting the whole biodiversity cycle thingy. Tailor made ciggy butts are acrylic. Cigar butts are organic, as are rollup (made with rice paper and no filter) butts. Ash is an organic compound with beneficial effects on soil and the whole bio-regeneration thingy. Excessive waste of any kind in inappropriate places is unwelcome.

"Half a million dead Iraqis versus some slobs who can't use a bin... Hmmm..." We thrive on war just look at all the closed hospitals to see that war is far more important than the government looking after its citizens. Blair & Bush will one day be immortalised with the likes of Hitler, Churchil & Stalin.
