Packing too much - is it a woman thing?

Jump to newest

Having just got back from a few days away. I realised when unpacking, that I had only worn 50% of what I had taken with me. I thought I had packed light too.

Do you have your holiday packing or weekend away packing down to a fine art? Or are you like me and take far more than you will ever need? I am sure men never take as much as we do or are there some that do?

I pack about an hour before leaving.

Panic packing has always served me well.

3 weeks ago I was in Dubai and New York in the same week!

I had a mini suitcase and one carry on hand luggage for my laptop and small things.

A few things I have learnt whilst travelling is..

If the hotel is willing to provide it...you don't take it!

I packed the night before. I hate taking too much.

Also I make good use of the hotels laundry service

We're going away soon,I've deliberately not increased the luggage allowance to force me to pack sensibly

My friends think it's hilarious and wonder how I'm going to cope

I can easy go away for a week with hand luggage.

Germany in July on the bike will be 12 days in total and it'll all go in a bag no bigger than hand luggage on the pillion seat.

I tend to travel light. Much better than dragging around crap you don't need.

I can pack for any temperate or hot climate for 2 weeks in a small rucksack...including a couple of books

If it were not for toiletries, I could get away with hand luggage. With toiletries my luggage weighs around 11k but more bulky

Toiletries? Just go to a supermarket when you get there.

This

Once had to buy an extra holdall for the books I had collected during a holiday in Australia

My friend said it was like travelling with the 'Great British Library'

I'm pretty good at packing - though there's often some panicky anxiety before it's finished.

I like to travel very light, usually with carry on bags only, though I am typically overlooked when I'm likely to be over the limit.

If you aim to do hang baggage only, then it becomes a real focused target, so that you only take the essentials and what you definitely will wear and need.

Waiting for luggage on a rotating belt isn't my thing. When I arrive, I like to get off and out - though sometimes it does attract some security suspicion. I've had my small bags gone through a few times but overall have still got away quicker than if I'd checked bags in. I always fly to where you can buy stuff and if friends are nearby, they can potentially help out too. If I have too much, I box it and courier it home - and have purchased foreign goods for delivery, awaiting my arrival too.

I could live out of a back pack if I'm going to a hot country. Basic toiletries, but most places sell them anyway, clothes that can be washed by hand and dried on the balcony and sun cream. I buy books at the airport and socks,I always buy a pair of socks at the airport.

When you go on holiday in Egypt, buying all your toiletries out there becomes very expensive. If it were Spain, no problem. I have packing down to an art but toiletries are my downfall.

I don't take heels on holiday lol flop flips or sandals all the way

I can pack light if I have to. Got all our stuff in one suitcase last summer(2of us) plus 2 small hand luggage items.

If we're driving I take loads... My biggest overkill being footwear. I have been known to pack 5 pairs for a weekend

Away with the fairies (Liverpool to you)

It's always a giggle when we pack for holidays in my house. Pete was in the army for years so travels light and can pack two suitcases of stuff into one so I lay out all my clothes/shoes/necessities on the bed and he stands for a few minutes shaking his head and arguing with me about the volume of items. Then he gets to work....rolling up everything.....squashing things inside shoes.....sliding things down sides and gradually it all disappears. When we get home and he unpacks most of it is still rolled up and I get told off for wasting suitcase space - and we start all over again next holiday time

My thing is I always take twice as much clothing as I need 'just in case' - I am not sure what it's just in case of but I do it every time

If I've got plenty of time to plan then I have the packing down perfectly and don't take too much. If it's a bit last minute or chaotic then I panic and take waaaayy too much.

Depends what we are doing and where we are going, this weekend we were at crystal's parents and I think I took 3 tee shorts and 2 pairs of boxers. Fot Lickety's do at Jaydee's I had 3 pairs of shoes (in addition to the trainers I was wearing) 2 different outfits and a bag bigger than crystal's

I used to take loads. Then I stupidly forgot my suitcase with all my clothes on a two week holiday. I purchased the bare essentials only and I got by. So now I don't take half as much as I used to.
