so tomorrow is my longest plod to date in aid of Diabetes UK. So far i have raised over £200 in return for running 8.5 miles.

I am a bit nervous as i havent actually run this far in one go yet (bit late now lol) and my last few runs have not been that great

does anyone have any pre race rituals they want to share to help me out??

Bowl of porridge with some bannana 3 hours before always works for me, giving me the energy but enough time not to get a stitch.

I always eat yogurt and honey before a run, filling but not heavy. Good luck !

Evie fluids are key how far have you run in past. Good luck.

Have done numerous marathons and half tho 6 mile my fave.

Apart from the psychology of doing it no need to do full full distance in training as stamina can be built up usually.

Pasta tonight. Pasta for breakfast. Drink a bit more than usual and just go with the swell of people around you that you feel comfortable with.

Enjoy. xx

My advice would be, if you feel tired, walk a bit then run again. I would hope the other runners will be supportive of you. You can do it.

Good luck.

Try to sleep well tonight and skip fatty foods, even tasty ones like pizza. Drink lots of water and stay well hydrated during it. Have alight breakfast in the morning and pace yourself and enjoy the atmosphere of the day. Good luck and enjoy yourself. It'll be a marathon next.

porridge for breakfast

Just have your usual, otherwise you're more likely to have an upset tummy

You want to have had your main meal the night before by 7pm to allow it time to go through your system. You then need to get up at least two hours before the race and have a snack such as a banana on toast, energy bar or low fibre cereal. Make sure you have finished eating an hour before the race. As running can stimulate the bowel you want to warm up for at least 10minutes giving you time to find a toilet of you need it.

Remember to sip water as you run. If I am going to be running longer than an hour I have a sachet of energy gel that I take an hour into a run.

Ensure you have a high carb snack ready for you at the finish and remember to drink water for the rest of the day.

Good luck xx

Before I do the North Run, I always have plenty carbs, ie pasta, the night before, a small bowl of porridge about 3 or more hours before the run. I take a couple of bananas with me, eating one en-route and the other maybe an hour before the start of the run. Don't forget the all important water - but not too much or you'll end up with stitch

I'm still bolloxed by the end of it !!!

My running is slower than my walking. Park run is really early in the morning. I might get there one day.
