Is it a baby oil stain in the shape of a body?

Try engine degreaser like GUNK or even a few goes with fairy liquid to break is down. Hot water from a kettle also melts the greasiest portions.

Halesowen

I usually wet the area and then sprinkle washing powder on, then scrub with a brush, rinse and repeat as necessary - but you may end up with a really clean patch

It might be a little far gone but try WD 40 and a jet wash.

18 months on tarmac.. don't think that is moving anywhere now... fresh oil all the above advice is good, and on less porous surfaces you may get away with cleaning an old stain, but not tarmac. On the plus side if the base is good then you can always put another half inch of tarmac on it and cover the stain

Wow lots of suggestions. Which do I go for? Lol

I'm really hoping it's not done lasting damage. I might try the washing powder or cat litter first. It sounds like the cheapest option. I rent the house so wouldn't really want to start having to retarmac unless it's the last resort

Bicarbonate of soda and jet wash off or, if it's really stubborn pop to Halfrauds and get some tar & glue remover (the Autoglym stuff). Squirt on the stain, wait 5 minutes and jet wash away.

Pee on it.

Won't get rid of the stain but at least you're neighbours won't notice it if you are squatting down for a waz.

Too busy watching you

After 18 months it may be too far gone. Has it started to soften the tarmac yet?

You'll find that your tarmac will be buggered due to the oil best way to fix it will be to dig up said patch and retarmac it

I don't want to do that only as a laSt resort. Will try the other options first. Will let you know how it goes

My guess is that you are going to get charged for repairing it when you move out maybe?

Hence why wanting to get rid of it.

Yes it's been heavily suggested to me to get it cleaned up which is fair enough. I'm really just hoping that tarmaccing isn't necessary. That could be quite costly I presume

You used to be able to get a special version of "Gunk" that was specifically for this problem - maybe they still make it?

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Buy an old Land Rover! It won`t get rid of the oil but it will drop a load more and make it match!

I have heard that coca cola works well on things like that.

Oil dripping from a car can tarnish your driveway or garage floor, but it's easy to clean up with some cola.

All you have to do is pour a few cans of room-temperature cola on the stain, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, blot it with some old towels, and rinse off any remains. If there's anything left over, you could try using dish soap, or any of the other methods included in the source link.

I use Sodium bicarbonate for removing stains and smells - someone else above mentioned it.

You may also want to fix the oil leak on your car.

Horsham

Get more old oil and spread it about, you won't notice the patch then.

Wakefield

Be VERY careful, anything that will remove the oil will also be capable of damaging the asphalt (which is oil based).

Most of the above will work but you could end up with a pothole instead of a stain
