tomorrow sees a stadium put to proper use with Dave Grohl & crew. but where has been your best venue to attend?

The Apollo in Manc is possibly my best to date.

Any small, dark, sweaty and loud pub room for me thanks I've never really enjoyed seeing any bands in a massive arena/hall it just seems to suck away the atmosphere for me

Titz Towers, North Notts

A pub where everyone is there for the comedy, not just there drinking and the comedy is an after thought. The bar stops serving when the acts are on, the chairs are arranged in a semi-circle around the stage, with no tables (that just encourages people to chat amongst themselves), the fruit machine is turned off, as is the bar phone, the barmaids have been told not to collect glasses till the intermission and it is after 8PM.

The town & country club in Kentish Town is the best venue I've been to.

Small , sweaty , big stage and excellent bar area.

Apollo in manc is an awesome venue. Saw Rainbow and Ozzy Osbourne there

Have seen Black Sabbath, Rainbow & Queen at Bingley Hall Stafford, also Bryan Ferry & Metallica at the G-Mex Centre Manchester. Both decent venues in their day, but not having been to either for years I couldn't say what they are like now

The Astoria and Marquee in London were both great venues but both sadly gone. My current favourites are the Academies and Ritz in Manchester

I'm not even sure what The Hummingbird is called anymore, or indeed, if it's still there. It used to be the greatest venue I'd ever been to but had dreadful problems with the council. Everything has pretty much moved to the sterile, corporate O2 Academy, or The Institute (which is a nice old place but not very 'rock and roll') - plus the upstairs room has the worst lighting in the world for shooting bands.

King Tuts is intimate and atmospheric.

Glasgow Apollo was ideal for bigger bands, like Fleetwood Mac.

West Midlands

Barbarellas club in Bham was a good club sized venue and saw some good acts there ranging from Sam & dave,everly bros,Chuck Berry,Ramones,Clash,Talking heads,Robert Gordon,Bigger Birmingham venue i liked was the Mayfair suite where i saw bigger acts like Led Zep,The Who,Faces.

Milton Keynes bowl was a quite venue and i saw queen,Bowie,Joan Jett there.

Barrowlands without a doubt. Great hall and great acoustics (hellishly shite load in - but punters don't see that). It's a real shame that so many promoters don't use it anymore and been drawn away by financial carrots to the soulless hangers and the likes of the Academy and ABC

It's a cost issue but still a shame.

I saw Bryan Adams & T'Pau in a small venue in Cornwall about 1987, can't remember the name of it, but it was quite intimate to say the least

I thought it closed when the new Acadmy opened in what was the Dome. Thought that was quite a good venue as far as an Acadamy one goes

Saw Ben Howard at Alexandria Palace, fantastic gig in a beautiful historic landmark, couldn't ask for more.

I also like Brixton Academy as a small close up venue.

Can't beat a decent pub as a venue; given that, quiet liked Brixton Academy and watching Texas at Edinburgh Castle on the millenium new years eve will always stick out.

Saw The Stuffies warm up gig before they played at Bescot stadium a day or two later- about 300 crazy fans squashed into a small, low ceiling room with piss poor ventilation and shite acoustics and a way to small carpark full of pot holes and virtually no lighting.

I think i went there almost every week or two for a while.

Used to love the Brixton Academy when I lived in London, for a big venue I've seen some great acts at the MK Bowl - and to get right back to my Mis-spent youth - Aylesbury Civic Centre and some interesting nights at the Kings Head in Friars Square.

JB's and junction 10 were 2 different clubs. JB's was in Dudley, spent many happy nights there (both the original and new one). Think that the Junction 10 gig was a year before Bescot when Paul Clifford joined.

I admit that I'm a massive geek about my favourite band!

Thought J10 was also owned by JB's? I went to the original JB's once (backof the town centre- think that was the stuffies too...The one by the zoo wasn't as good though)

It was just before The Big Day Out at Bescot as I went to both- the J10 gig was 'The Secret Affair'

It could well have Noddys bar tucked away in there!,but by the time i have got in after a few real ale beers in the pub just round the corner i been oblivious to it!.

i went to the Robin when it used to be out at Merry Hill.

Quite a few good venues in Selly oak/moseley are have been lost indeed!,The roadhouse took over from the Breedon Cross just across the road which is now a block of flats

The Junction in harborne had some good gigs for a pub and i saw ruby turner,fairport convention amongst others there.
