"I've got an exposed stone wall on top of my stairs..I want to re seal as I've chipped out as much of the black mortar I can...what do I use?..I've been told I need something breathable like lome based mortar.struggling to find the info online at the moment I live in a terraced house, and the wall isn't exposed to the elements, its the deviding line between me,and my neighbour...any tips would be greatly appreciated It's lime mortar that you need. You mix it with sand and water. Just like you would normal mortar just that you are using lime instead of cement. Any decent builders merchant will have it in and give you advice on the mix ratio. Even B&Q will have it. You will also find it easyer if you use a bucket trowel to hold the mortar then slide it off with a pointing trowel in a back hand motion then slide the pointing trowel upwards. It's a slow job but with the effort. Keep your trowels wet and clean any loose dust out is the best tip I can give. Good luck. " Cheers . | |||
