Who do you think is the best British footballer of all time??

I'm a United fan but for me its a kenny dalglish/Ryan Giggsy split.

Giggs is a close one for me to,but another united player I think is the 1 of the best players,got to be Paul Scholes,professional until the he retired then he come back and was still the best Midfielder

If greatest = talented, then for me it just has to be Best.

If your including trophies/length of career at top etc etc then giggs is good shout- just devastating that lad (remember the juve game 1999!)

Not the juventus game 99 but the one a few years later in Turin when at the time United fans were getting on his back and he scored two in the game,one a half of the pitch dribble.

There have been so many great footballers over the years and you can't say who is the best, football bas changed so much it would is wrong to compare ,now you could have best player in modern times but not ever, do you think daglish or giggs would have been running down the wings if they had the old type caseball at their feet I doubt it or shearer heading that ball day in day out lol

I would have to say Best who I think for pure talent was the greatest ever. I wonder how much better he could have been if he had been 100% committed to football like Scholes for example.

Others who come close would be (in no particular order)

Finney.

Mathews.

Moore.

Bell and Charlton would have to be in there as well.

From the modern era Giggs would be up there as would Gerrard, Lampard, and Terry is certainly the best defender I've seen for a long while. Top spot however would have to go to Scholes.

Two that got away?

I wonder how good Duncan Edwards would have been had he not be so tragically killed at Munich, and if Paul Gascoigne had stayed off the bottle.

My hero was always Colin Bell.

even being a city fan I'd find hard not to vote for Giggs in the more recent years though.

Except when the little minx took BBC Sports Personality of the Year from Jenson Button!! Grrrrr

Not everyones favourite and understandably as he wasn't the most skilful but watching David Beckham at Elland Road when he was about 23 I was surprised at just how good he was at what he did. Alan Shearer couldn't do six kick ups, saw that with my own eyes but absolutely ruthless in front of goal and scored on every occasion I saw him live.

To answer the question it's Duncan Edwards for me some great footage of him in the Dudley Archives. A colossus man and brilliant in every position too, a total footballer, it's a great pity we we're robbed of seeing more of him.

You can't compare like for like on 50s 60s and 70's players with players of the last 20 years, because of the crap pitches, boots, and heavy balls they used to have to contend with. How good would Best have looked on the carpet pitches they play on today?.

George was the best we've seen, literally. England were robbed of their greatest in Duncan, such a shame.

Duncan Edwards lived on the same Dudley estate as Sam Alladyce, although Sam was only about 2 at the time of the Munich disaster.

Nope, Great Britain is the name of the island that comprises England, Scotland, and Wales, although the term is also used loosely to refer to the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is a political unit that includes these countries and Northern Ireland

Must admit that I had forgotten about Jim Baxter

Another "one who got away" Anyone remember Tony Green?

Jimmy Greaves, no less, said that he was the best player he had ever seen.

Blackpool sold him to Newcastle then his career was cut short by injury. Ended up teaching maths at a school just outside Blackpool.

sadly football today is all about money and you don't even get locals, playing for local teams

you still get the same sheep supporting what ever team is winning such as Man United even if the live 100's of miles away from that team

would also have to give a shout for Bobby Johnstone

and not forgetting the player i was lucky enough to see in his twilight years in the lower leagues John Sherriden spraying passes from the middle of the park despite his knees being shot
