"Usually posts veer off track or fail down the line...you couldn't decide in the opening post haha (tough choice tho mate) If greatest = talented, then for me it just has to be Best. If your including trophies/length of career at top etc etc then giggs is good shout- just devastating that lad (remember the juve game 1999!)" Not the juventus game 99 but the one a few years later in Turin when at the time United fans were getting on his back and he scored two in the game, one a half of the pitch dribble.

"The best British player I saw live was Paul Gascoigne" Same here. Not everyones favourite and understandably as he wasn't the most skilful but watching David Beckham at Elland Road when he was about 23 I was surprised at just how good he was at what he did. Alan Shearer couldn't do six kick ups, saw that with my own eyes but absolutely ruthless in front of goal and scored on every occasion I saw him live. To answer the question it's Duncan Edwards for me some great footage of him in the Dudley Archives. A colossus man and brilliant in every position too, a total footballer, it's a great pity we we're robbed of seeing more of him. Him

Him" Bobby Charlton said Duncan Edwards was the greatest player he ever played alongside and perhaps the most skilful player he had ever seen. Maybe England would've won the world cup in 1970 if he had'nt died so young. For me though it has to be George Best.

England were robbed of their greatest in Duncan, such a shame.

"George best / kenny dalgliesh I know besty is Northern Irish but is that not still British Very much so" Nope, Great Britain is the name of the island that comprises England, Scotland, and Wales, although the term is also used loosely to refer to the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom is a political unit that includes these countries and Northern Ireland

"Here's a bit of trivia for you Duncan Edwards lived on the same Dudley estate as Sam Alladyce, although Sam was only about 2 at the time of the Munich disaster."

"1. George Best 2. Jim Baxter 3. Stanley Matthews 4. Jimmy Johnstone 5. Kenny Dalglish" Must admit that I had forgotten about Jim Baxter Another "one who got away" Anyone remember Tony Green? Jimmy Greaves, no less, said that he was the best player he had ever seen. Blackpool sold him to Newcastle then his career was cut short by injury. Ended up teaching maths at a school just outside Blackpool.

"Danny McGrain sadly football today is all about money and you don't even get locals, playing for local teams you still get the same sheep supporting what ever team is winning such as Man United even if the live 100's of miles away from that team football today is laughable as is many of the followers" Scouser born and bred and only ever supported Liverpool. Agree with the OP Dalglish was something else.
