I quite like them. I find it a good tool to reflect on what has gone well, what I am good at and what I need to work on.

Well it's 12 pages long and they don't call it a self appraisal any more , but that's what it is.

Just write:

"Efficient, concise and able to get swiftly to the crux of any problem" Then simply put a thick black line through the rest of it.

If there's a section at the end for "manager's recommendations" pre-fill it in for them, just saying 15% pay rise.

That's what I always do!

Makes me laugh things like this.

I'm very good at my job and better at some aspects than our engineers.

I jump though hoops to get a bonus of £1500 every 6 months, the criteria is normally done by someone who sits in an office, has no idea how to do my job, yet tries to tell me how I need to do my job.

I had one a couple of years back as part of a pilot scheme at work. I just wrote 'I don't like myself very much, but I'm also a poor judge of character'.

HR never asked me again...

constant and consistent appraisal is the managers job, if asked to write my own I make it a glowing report and award myself a performance pay rise every time

I don't much mind them - but 12 pages ffs! Ours are just a few sentences and bullets. Achievement against last years objectives, setting the next year's objectives and how they will be achieved, any requirements/barriers to progress, and any comments. I just copy and paste last year's and edit as appropriate, takes about 15 minutes.

When I was doing maths in my MA they asked us to give ourselves a mark of how well we felt we did. I was somewhere near the top of the class but felt there was always room for improvement so gave myself a score of around 75%. I later found out that these marks counted as the actual mark for the year and most of my friends had marked themselves around 99%, even the ones who hadn't a clue about maths. I think I must've come in somewhere near the bottom of the class lol

Since then... you want a self appraisal? The answer is I'm doing brilliantly and I'm excelling in everything
