Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, did you ever find anyone more annoying than double glazing salesmen? Have endured two now and kicked both of them out after listening to there crap for half an hour, the second one refused to answer a question until he got to the point in his sales pitch where I would be invited to ask questions.

I should clarify this was just me and him in my own home, cheeky prick.

Next time, invite them in then shut the door firmly... and then lock it, popping the key into your pocket. Then relax and enjoy as their professional confidence/cockiness turns to panic.

Don't get any cold calling around here, but I do have a problem with the ones who stand behind the checkouts at DIY stores etc.

I usually reply that I'm happy with Windows 7 or something like that.

I'm finding accident/injury phone calls annoying just lately. They seem to have taken over from ppi cold callers. Every night about six some numpty rings me about an "accident" I had three years ago. Not had any so where do they get their info from?

Get a local company with local references you can check, to quote you. Most double glazing is much of a muchness, obviously higher quality units cost more than cheap ones. Usually, they'll just turn up, measure up and quote you your options. If you get a script merchant, just refuse to listen and turf them out.

we dont get many and the ones that do knock usually get told sorry I fit them myself or in parents case oh my sons fit them

my advice to anyone that has them fitted make sure your fitters screw them before foaming them as many just foam them up

as ive seen many a window thats been foamed only and the owners have been robbed

I used to do telesales for Safestyle (sorry!), when I did need windows doing I got them in for a quote to compare, told him I used to work for them, had a bit of a reminiscence talking about mutual acquaintances, and said he needn't bother with the spiel as I knew it all. However it was so drummed into him he couldn't help himself. Was a bit disturbing to watch really!

Best thing I did in the end was using a site called something like rated people or rated tradesmen, and got a localish firm to do it for half the price quoted by the national companies.

Near Edinburgh..

we had one of the Conservatory people phone us about once a week.. so we wasted about an Hour of their Time and Eventually Agreed over the phone to a Free quote..

Don't think they were happy when they arrived and seen we lived in a First Floor Flat..

Never got a Phone call from them Ever again..

Titz Towers, North Notts

I once sold double glazing for a living. I lasted 1 week. I didn't like the lying that went on. Rather than pretend to manufacture a reason to come down from a high price to a lower price for the sale, I'd have much rather just opened up the price book and been straight with them about what it could be done at. I was glad to leave.

How come it took you 30 minutes, twice, to listen to them before deciding you didn't want their service?

I'm willing to submit my candidacy if you need a subject on whom to test this approach.

Got an excellent local company to do the last lot. The rest that had a chance to quote, apart from one other, got short shrift once they had described their product. I knew what I wanted quality wise and if they didn't offer that they were quickly shown the door. Door-to-door sales people never get the door opened for them. I have a strategically placed mirror that enables me to check who is at the door and if I don't know them the door remains unopened

They're only doing their job. Why invite them in The first place?

They don't bother me if they are civil, well mannered, courteous and invited.
