"See now this is a post that very much has me thinking because I can be tested for that cancer gene brca1 or what ever letters it is, at present I have decided to block it out of my mind as I am still in a mourning period so to speak as I had ectopic pregnancy last October and was told I cant have children naturally and am still trying to get my head round that before I can even think about getting gene tested and the worrys that may come with that. After my smear test 2 years ago I had stage 3 pre cancerous cells after stage 3 is cervical cancer so I am in limbo as to get tested or not right now. Xx" Sorry to hear your sad news... That was going to be my next question... Would you ladies get tested for the gene and if you were found to have the breast cancer gene would you have your breast removed???

"Me and my sister have been tested for the defective gene because my mum has got stage IV ovarian cancer. The mad thing is that even though her cancer is very aggressive they would not test us until my mum had already tested positive for the defective gene.... There is more likelihood of us getting both cancers as my mum has tested positive and has ovarian cancer. We get the results in a few weeks and then we have to find out what, if anything, they will do about it. Yes we both wanted to know - and are pretty gutted is taking so long " Good luck for your results xx

"Frisky had breastfeeding cancer 6 years ago. Before she had the lump removed (lumpectomy) she spoke to the surgeon about a single or double mastectomy. His reply was not to have have a mastectomy. He went on to say that if the cancer is going to return it would only grow on the ribcage instead of the breast. Obviously other surgeons may disagree but we feel that in this situation it best to have all the facts and view all the options before deciding which course of action to take. We hope that everything turns out well for everyone who is affected by cancer directly or indirectly. FnRxxx" Oh my god, really!? How disheartening to find it can still grow on the rib cage.

The most common re accruing cancer is bone cancer, a lot of women who have mastectomies will ask for the second beast to be removed but its very seldom done as if the cancer re accurs there is a slim chance it will come back in the second breast its almost always in the bones

"Easier sed than done to have a double mastectomy -to begin with the decision was straight forward - get rid as a preventative measure in my case. I have strong family history and obviously I'm being monitored and the ball is rolling so much so I'm at the stage of all I need to do now is give the green light. Yet the more knowledge I get the scarier it becomes- seems like a whole can of worms now and not so straight forward at all, Physically yes but psychologically no. Women who are going through this process are truly remarkable and the bravest 3 "

"My sister died from it. Personally I would advise to take away any risk. Reconstructions are great and breasts done make a woman there is much more and rem a beautiful woman is always beautiful. Take no risks"

"Apologies in advance if this post upsets anyone. If you were a high risk for breast cancer, would you want to know? " I would want to know. And may this thread reminds us, women to regularly feel our breasts for lumps and go straight to gp if in doubt; teach daughters whatever young to do the same; and men, to also check themselves out! I am French and in France there are campaigns about 'checking yourself out' in high schools for girls and boys. And most women are registered with a gynaecologist, as they are the only ones able to prescribe contraceptive pills etc. So you bypass the GP which field it isn't! Also regular, as every 2 years I believe, mammograms for over 50s and people with a family history. I think each women being registered with a gynaecologist would make a huge difference in women's health. But that's my opinion knowing both medical system.

She is doing really well and is very positive......we are all looking forward to having a good look at her new boobs. They are giving her a boob lift on her remaining boob so she matches and she is excited after two years of treatments this feels like the end of all the badness for her xx
