As an employer I have today placed a part time vacancy (5.5 hours) with the local job centre..............3 hours on and I've had 3 calls from people who want full time work.

One call from someone who can't actually work the days advertised but thought they would apply anyway.

And now four calls from people who missed the "phone between 9.30am and 4.30pm" message!!

To cap it all people keep asking for Diane when my name is clearly listed as Di!!!........Bloody hell its just like being on FAB lol.....

Looks like a supply and demand mismatch to me.

Most on the dole will looking for full time work or as near as they can get. If they were looking for 5.5 hours they wouldn't be on the dole. You can work up to 15 hours a week on the dole but most wont or if they do it will not be for long as its just too much hassle and they are effectively working for nothing.(their benefits are reduced by just about the full amount of anything they earn)

Applications will come anyway just to keep the dole office happy that they are indeed looking for work as is required of them.

You would be much better off using your local news paper to advertise.

In this neck of the woods the Job Centre is always the first port of call when looking for work, it's no longer regarded as a source just for the unemployed.

Sadly employers views regarding advertising retail vacancies have changed and for such a small number of hours many large companies consider newspaper advertising an unnecessary expense. Not always my view I might add, but my hands are tied in most instances.

After today I might well have lost the will to live by the time this tiny vacancy is filled

Dian, sorry I meant Rodders…. What the hell, silly arse…

The thing is Dave… if its any consolation my misses has the same problem with locals, if brains where made of dynamite they wouldn’t have enough to blow their nose! H is a contract manager for a cleaning company running a team of 16 bodies. Don’t think she’s had a day yet when all 16 turn up and if they do a couple of them will be late! She has sacked 4 people in as many weeks for either being totally useless or too many days no-show etc. it’s a continuous nightmare! And then on top of that her phone is going 24/7 from people… looking for a job!

You have our deepest sympathy for your plight
