im not talking meeting people as such but when you see profiles of people on the forum and get a feel for the kind of person they are - does anybody build up a mental image of them from seeing pretty much all the body apart from a face -- then a face pic appears and its nothing like you imagined -

i know im still half asleep and making as little sense as usual

I think people have been surprised by my personality when they meet me in person rather than my looks.

I'm still very straight talking but my morose sense of humour comes through a lot better.

I think this happens to everyone. You build up an image of someone's face based on what you like and what you'd like them to ideally look like. When that turns out not to be what the person looks like it can be a bit of a shock at first.

Definitely this!

For the people I chat to a lot, I build up a complete picture of them. Have to say, I have always been pleasantly surprised, and my imaginings have been greatly surpassed by reality.

But I do the same thing talking to people on the phone - build up what you imagine them to be. I got told recently through work from someone I had spoken to on the phone, that when they met me they were expecting someone much larger as I am so cheerful (Not sure what thats all about lol)

Meh....

Think is for a lot of people, having others appreciate their looks is a confidence booster.

Working out, improving your body is something they have control over.

Unfortunately your stuck with your face forever.

Some win the lottery and they are the beautiful people, the ones that stop a room dead when they walk into it.

Alas most of us are quite simply average.

I'd rather have an "oh..." early on than waste time chatting and getting to know someone to then put them off with a face pic.

Don't think anyone has been scarred for life seeing my pictures yet... (just for about a year and some counselling but they got over it )

We send pics, well his single profile has quite a few revealing ones, but they do not always show us exactly as we are because seeing someone in the flesh is different. I do hate pics that are obviously twenty years out of date though .... what is the point of that? It is always obvious. Mine are always up to date in fact considering a new one as had a new hair cut yesterday. The one thing that caught me totally unawares when I met Mr for the first time were his eyes, totally amazing and not shown on his single profile as he wears sunglasses on it

sometimes but not often is a face shown. Always looking at profiles to match up the person to the words though, pretty sure we've been blocked a few times for mistakenly thinking we're perving which isn't 'always' the case.

I am rubbish at visualising faces so I am often more pleasantly surprised than otherwise when I see the face of someone I have a vague impression of from forum posts and messages. On one or two occasions I have got it completely wrong though, and that's actually quite good fun.

I do get a lot of people who assume that because I don't show my face I must be a minger. Which feels strange for me, because in real life I've had umpteen comments of the "you'd be gorgeous if you lost weight because you have a pretty face" variety. Reminds me to keep my feet on the ground and take everything on here with a pinch of salt.

I get that all the time too in Real Life. As well as the whole 'you could be really pretty if you made an effort' line (that one is a regular from my mum particularly). At least on here the boob comments are open though.
