I read recently that children's treatment is lagging behind adults in some areas as they have less clinical trials for testing different medical drugs. Part of that must be - what a hard decision for a parent to make on behalf of their child.

I've taken part, some time ago, in a medical trial testing two different hormone drugs for IVF. We got the cycle for free due to taking part and although that cycle failed. A subsequent frozen one worked. We were extremely lucky.

Have you or would you take part in a medical/clinical trial?

I was offered the chance to be a guinea pig in a university research program into back pain.

Fortunately I was able to get the problem "fixed" privately as being part of the study didn't offer any guarantees of success.....

sort of - a good few years ago before they started doing smears and popping the sample into liquid as opposed to a glass slide - they tested out the new method - ive signed up for a breast scan something when i had my first boob squash but not heard anything yet

I took part in a flu clinic trial. Put me up in a nice kitted out room, tv, game console, was like a hotel room. fed me three times a day and paid me £2000. Even paid towards travel expenses. Not bad for two weeks work.

All good now though, just the occasional twinge, usually when I'm not exercising or stretching enough. So my own damn fault.

I offered to take part in a trial on heart drugs as dad field of heart failure and they wanted people with family history.

Expenses paid trip to Bruma for medical etc... Rejected! Blood pressure normal and cholesterol very low (in a good way). Basically told I was too fit lol!

Would people on benefits have a choice in this - or are we going to revert to some kind of Hitler like thinking where you just consider them a sub-specie?

I've done a couple, not really medical as in taking drugs, but looking at the effect of certain supplements on absorption rates of other minerals, that kind of thing. I don't mind having blood taken and I work right next to the university so I'm quite a good candidate for that type of trial

I did a couple whilst at University.

Both were involved in glaucoma and, consequently, you now have the machine that fires a jet of air onto the cornea to determine the pressure within the globe, and the drugs to treat the condition.

I've done a few , the last trial paid me £4.5K ....lasted 2.5 months . Gonna do another this year....best to wait for the higher paying ones as you can only do trials every 3 months.

Very easily, they don't have the last word on anything. It's the people who will object and get together then make a fuss that they have to be bothered about.

I've been offered to put my name down for trials, i'm tempted because i need the money but i value my quality of life more so decided not to. You're being tested on basically and it can have repercussions that aren't what you wanted.

I was trying to remember the name of that trial. I remember watching the news about it at the time. I guess it would put a lot off for trials generally. Though, sometimes, if it's the only option left, it's maybe worth the risk. I am thinking more for terminal cancer patients or other incurable life limiting conditions.

I was part of a cancer treatment trial, sadly I got the 3 weeks of radiotherapy instead of chemotherapy but it all worked out for the good for in the end

did one for cervical cancer research about 20 years ago..had to have a smear and photos taken every month for a year..we got a £25 M&S voucher each time...i was perfectly happy with that! could feed myself for ages on that back then!

I've done two, to supplement my student loan. One was for a cervical cancer drug, the other a heart study.

It's really well paid and you get a thorough MOT to ensure you're healthy enough to take part.
