Swinging means an agreement between comitted couples about who can play where and with who ........

singles need no such agreement and therefore are not swinging.

I am single, and only play with single gents.

However, I go to clubs that cater for swingers, and have played with available single gents that take my fancy while I am there.

I do wish people would either stick to verbs or nouns with these type of questions.

Can a single person be a swinger - I'd say yes, by their values and beliefs about sex and relationships.

Is someone who only partakes in 1-2-1 sex and wouldn't want to share their own partner with anyone else a swinger - no.

Are two singles meeting for one-2-one sex swinging - no. It doesn't need a new name to define it either.... there have been plenty of names for casual sex banded around for decades.

Does it make any difference to a person's standing or worth if someone is a swinger or not or if the recreational sex they have is swinging or not - no it shouldn't.... yet so many people seem so keen to grab hold of a label and blur the edges so it fits them.

I prefer the more traditionalists definition... otherwise how the fuck does anyone know what the label is meant to mean? But does it have to be via a swinging site? A couple that I'm friends with in Manchester have never used the internet for swinging, yet they go to Partners, or Townhouse every weekend.

See thats the problem with trying to define swinging. Someone always does it differently to the definition, yet still class themselves as swingers.

i dont class myself as a swinger

im a single woman who meets single guys, ok i go to clubs and parties too, and i will play with women in the right situation, but i wouldnt say i was a swinger, because theres only me i suppose

However i do find swinging site to best place to find what i am looking for which is why i use them

I see that no-one has mentioned the "social" side of swinging, the making friends and meeting up outside of "playing".

For us, that is what seperates "casual" sex and "swinging".

We play with singles and couples, but we never play with anyone that we wouldnt want to be friends with, which means we like to get to know them, either before, during, or after the physical bit lol!

Basically I believe swinging is a mindset, either you are in it for just sex, or you are into the "lifestyle".

But we avoid labelling peeps, each to their own, if thats what you want, who are we to say you are wrong?

Oh I'm so glad I don't feel like that NaughtyNympho....I have some of the best ever sex with some of my closest friends on Fab.

I really enjoy the social side of swinging, and attend as many socials as I can up and down the country....met my best girlie at the first Barnsley social over a year ago and she's still my lover, my friend and confidant and I know that if either of us decided to walk away from the lifestyle we would still be friends (she's stuck with me for life I'm afraid ).....but there are a number of others whom I class as friends and who I enjoy playing with on a fairly regular basis.

For me, swinging is a lifestyle....yes I have lots of vanilla family and friends and the two halves of my life run concurrently with some overlap....I have intoduced some of my fab friends to some of my family and lots of my vanilla friends are aware of my fab friends(famiily and vanilla friends are totally unaware of the swinging)and it works well for me. I love my life

Why would they have to accept you as a swinger? Why not just accept you as a person who enjoys recreational sex.

Just because a common theme is present it doesn't mean it's the same thing.

I drive a car to work. It has wheels and an engine. I drive it on the road. Sometimes I carry goods in my car.... but I don't expect lorry drivers to accept me as a trucker.

Once upon a time there was a website called FabPhotography. The website welcomed all who were passionate about photography, whether they used a compact digital camera or SLR kit, whether they liked editing, processing or printing… all were welcomed. Some people came along who only had a camera on their phone, but they did take snap-shots and shared them with the photographers. Most of the photographers didn’t mind, these new people joined in discussions and shared their snap shots and the photographers thought “well everyone has to start somewhere don’t they”. More and more people joined, some where established photographers and some had only used a disposable camera on holiday… but hey, they had something in common so all settled in. The people who took holiday snaps didn’t always mix with the landscape photographers… but that was OK. Some of the landscape photographers didn’t want to mingle with the portrait photographers and the digital fans didn’t have much in common with the film processors… but they all, in some way, appreciated photographic pictures and so accepted each other.

One day a photographer asked… can someone be a photographer if they don’t own a camera? It was a simple enough question and no one was suggestion that the people without cameras should leave; yet some of the people who didn’t own a camera started to feel a little unhappy about this question. Some even started demanding to be called a photographer….. “ I own some photos and I am on a photography site, so I am a photographer!” Others joined in… “yeah without us photo admirers what would these camera owners do with no one to show their photos to?... I must be a photographer too”.

Pretty soon nearly everyone who joined the site wanted to be called a photographer and any time they looked at a photo or sent a photo to a friend, they said they were taking part in photography. More new people joined the site and many were confused by the argument, not knowing if they were a photographer or not. Some then started to think you didn’t even need to like photos to be a photographer, you could just like watching movies… they have lots of pictures in them and use cameras to make them…. “I own a dvd player. I am a photographer!”

So many people who were not traditional photographers, yet wanted to be called a photographer, had joined the site… some even suggested the site should change its name as they didn’t think being an actual photographer was important anymore, as long as you liked looking at images. People who watched the television started to think they should be called photographers… after all it wasn’t much different than watching a dvd.

The confusion grew and grew. If you asked someone why they joined the site some would say “because I am a photographer and I enjoy photography” but they had no interest in cameras or photographs…. what they really meant was they liked going to the cinema and were once a member of blockbuster. Pretty soon being a photographer had become a non-descriptive term, it could mean anything and everything and nothing at all. It became harder and harder to find people with similar interests because everyone wanted to be included and everyone wanted to be called the same as everyone else.

If you wanted a photographer for your wedding, you had better be careful… or you might end up with a taxi driver, who owns a photo ID card and could update you on the last episode of Coronation Street.

I do understand what you mean....I too have "body issues", but have to say that one of the huge benefits of playing with friends is that they have seen it all...lumps, bumps, saggy bits, and cellulite...and it obviously hasn't put them off cos they are happy enough to want to be with me. I've stopped worrying so much about how I look and just get on with enjoying the hot and horny times we have together....long may they continue

Lets make it more complex - if only the male of the couple plays (with the single female, perhaps both girls are straight and "wife" doesn't mind watching) what then?

Lets twist it: do couples who play with single men swing? Are they (the single men as well as the couples) swingers? If either party plays with the single man (ie, the wife supported by her watching hubby, or the bi-hubby supported by a watching wife,.. or even all 3 people) Can any of them be said to be swinging and hence swingers?

Now suppose couple-A and couple-B (both scenarios above, lets assume bi hubby and straight wife) are one and th same couple, and they all have an evening in (the single (bi) guy and the single (straight) girl, and for fun the couple sit back (to watch as they both like voyeurism) and let the two singles enjoy themselves together - who's swinging?

And for the love of all things sinful... can you (couples, single guys, single girls, TV/TS/CD/TG_ be said to be a swinger or swinging if you only like the social aspect?

NB: I hate the phrase "social side" as I find it a cheap cannonisation, plus the fact no one has defined how many sides there are to swinging?

For me I can't see how someone could be decribed as swinging if they don't actually meet people and engage in sexual acts on some level other than talking about it.

Hmmmmm....I was promiscuous way back in my youth...although I never conciously went out "on the pull"....if I met someone and fancied them, and it was reciprocated then we would end up shagging , I also played fairly frequently with male friends, whenever the mood took us. I would say it was love of the moment, on some occasions an overabundance of alcohol, and absolutely cos I was a randy so-and-so who loved sex.

So what is different about what I do now???

Planning!!!!

In my teens/early twenties is was always unplanned....just random casual sex. Then I was in a monogamous long-term relationship for 16 years and following the death of my partner I was sexually inactive (well apart from masturbation) for eleven years. Then in 2008 an old friend told me about a swinging site.

Now my playing is planned.......

...premeditated.....my meets are arranged with the primary intention to have some hot and horny fun, wether that's with established friends/acquaintances or with first time meets.

I suppose for me that's one of the biggest differences between someone just going out of the pull and having casual sex.....and adopting a swinging lifestyle, but at the end of the day it all comes down to recreational sex.

Do the labels ever really matter. I could be labelled as promiscuous.... a swinger.... a tart/slag/or any other name someone might chose to use.....it won't change one thing about the way I lead my life.

Good observation, but our profile was changed last night, long after I posted on the thread, before that it did say "we don't meet single males or females" we have decided to try something new for a week or two to see how it pans out but an understandable observation since you were not to know about recent profile changes.

IMHO, Yes. They aren't doing anything different to what we're doing (with the exception of those that do it behind others backs).
