Tragic. Poor lady, who seemed a lovely old, kind dear and charitable to others. What a pity she didn't get the support that she needed, in order to stop that harassment.

The telecoms companies, imo, should do more to stop incoming calls from wherever, that are known to be spam, to save all of us from the stresses of their pressuring tactics.

The people that make these calls and send these letters should be accountable for it

"The people that make these calls and send these letters should be accountable for it "

The people making the phone calls or sending the mail shots are just doing their job, they have no idea how many calls one individual is receiving. The bosses of the companies should re_iew their marketing campaigns.

I did a walk for Marie Curie a few years ago and the amount of letters etc i get through the door is unbelievable and i cannot seem to find any unsubscribe from mailing list option on their website (although it must be there as i believe it is a legal requirement). Same with Macmillan!

This is a tragic case and i do think that charities have become far too aggressive in their pursuit for more money. When i worked for a call centre we would receive calls following tv adverts asking for a set donation amount per month, while setting up the DD we were required (and scored down on quality scores if we didnt) to ask if they would mind upping that donation by over half. To me that just says that they do not respect the people who give their money to them freely.

To think that a kind and generous woman was driven to suicide (i believe it was suicide from what i have read) by he aggressive and greedy marketing campaigns of charities is a very sad moment.

Sad and tragic case. Hopefully her MP will get involved in stopping this sort of thing happening again. Any time i get harassed by a big charity's chugger in my town center, i make a point of never donating to that charity. Instead i choose a smaller local one to donate to instead.

So sad.

It's bad enough being accosted outside shops by charities, but to have 180 begging letters a week is just too much!

I feel sad at this woman's death although there was other contributing factors. Did she leave a note saying that 'That's it I can't cope with all these charities anymore!'? No so we will never know the full reason why she took her life but perhaps the ill health had something to do with it? The theft of the money she had sent to her friend?

Charities exist because governments won't do what they have to. I'm a door to door fundraiser for charities and trust me I don't agree with some practices adopted by companies that charities outsource to I get depressed by the stories printed in newpapers that question the function of charities.

If Cancer Research find treatments to all 220 forms of cancer surely everyone would rejoice seeing 1 in 2 people WILL be affected by cancer. If British Heart Foundation manage to reverse the damage to a heart especially in those born with heart defects that will be a great thing for those not able to live a proper life? If man lays down its weapons of destruction and becomes one large nation and eradicates poverty so humanitarian charities will no longer have need to exist.

Instead of bashing charities for the wrong they do look at what they do thats good and if your sick of charities that much write to you MP's and ask them why the government isn't providing the services these charities are.
