"Certainly to begin with you'll be able to eat more than 20g of carbs and stay in ketosis. 45-50g should be fine. Ask Topsy about this. She lives low carb permanently. She more or less halved her body weight and uses it to control her diabetes. You're right, the first few days, until you get into ketosis, are hellish. The first week or two, until you start to adjust to being in ketosis, will be difficult. It can take a month or two to fully adjust and to start to feel good on the diet. It requires a lot of motivation to begin with but once established, it's actually fairly easy. I feel great in ketosis. I have more energy, sleep better, my skin is better, it helps control my mood disorder... there are loads of benefits. The only drawback for me, and it's a really minor one, is that I feel the cold very easily. Going cold turkey on sugar and living low carb is the only way I can control my sugar addiction. Unfortunately, I tend to fall off the wagon when I get stressed. I've done several long stints of low carb, up to 6 months at a time, so I know a fair bit about it and am happy to chat about it. Topsy knows a lot more than I do and is also usually happy to advise." Excellent advice , the only other thing to add is the bad breath associated with the diiet . Chewing parsley leaf can help ![]()

"I have heard of it but haven't seen anyone on it or know of any success stories. Sounds a bit grim to begin with, the gym sessions will be tough without the carbs for energy. Win win but tough." Gym is difficult to begin with but in ketosis the body breaks down fat into ketones and burns those as fuel instead of carbs. Once established in ketosis, energy isn't usually a problem. As long as you don't cheat, and stay in ketosis your body switches to a different metabolic pathway and becomes very efficient at burning fat for energy. In that state, fat is burnt preferentially, so lean tissue/muscle loss is minimal (even without exercise). It does take a little while for the body to fully adapt to running on ketones though.

"I developed kidney stones as a direct result of this diet (according to my consultant) and was hospitalised for over a month. I did lose nearly 4 stone in a 3 month period but I have never felt so unhealthy (in addition to the kidney stones) I was gaunt and looked like a sack of bones despite exercise and gym work. This was 3 years ago. My stones were zapped but it took me months to recover. What I do now is I go carb free 3 times a week. I find that helps me to maintain the weight I lost (I put another 2 stone back after the kidney stones) and I am pretty happy with how I look. Just be careful and speak to your doctor. It does work for lots of people but I would never consider anything so extreme again. " I read that if you don't eat enough fats that's what can give you kidney stones and make you quite ill. It's a lot of fat to consume which probably freaks a lot of people out (including me haha) lots of people cut out the carbs and still try and stay low fat.

" You don't have to eat high fat on a ketogenic diet but it can help with feeling satiated and controlling cravings. It is possible to moderate fat intake. People on ketogenic diets tend, naturally, to reduce the quantity they eat. The best way of doing it, I found, is once you've adapted to it, eat when you're hungry rather than trying to stick to specific meal times. It's also vital to ensure your fluid intake is sufficient. Not drinking enough to flush excess ketones and other products through the kidneys can cause problems. Psyllium husk as a supplement can help too because constipation can be an issue.

Atkins..... this is the ATKINS" Wrong this isnt Atkins. Atkins is complete carb depletion. This diet can be done in many ways. Ive read before that you can carb cycle, some load up on carbs at the half way point of day 6 through to day 7 evening. Then this should be suffice for the week. Once your body starts to produce ketones you are in full fat burning mode. This can be tested using keto stix. If you start to feel fatigued just up the fat intake. I.E. healthy fats. Not using raype seed oil.(spelt differently for forum purpose) Avocado's are good cheese etc. No milk its got sugar in. Avoid all veg with high carb etc. I did this diet for 6 weeks i lost 2 stone and was the most cut ive been. If you do feel tired at all your not eating enough healthy fats. I cant stress that enough!!.

Do you really have the mental will power to do this in the hardest way possible just to save yourself a month or two extra of just eating sensibly. Keto if youre cutting for a competition in 12 weeks sure. But if youre just looking to lose some weight a sensible calorie deficit with a balanced diet will be so much easier if take slightly longer.

All raw food has enzyme's still in it. Soon as cooked over 120° all enzymes dead. We need those enzymes to process our food. Without them, the body uses its own reserves in the process...so body lacks things. People should eat more taw food regularly to stay healthy. The lot more to it all as guess most know, but that's basics. Also supplements are all mostly synthetic based, mostly all do harm long term than good...but what ever u believe...each to own

Fun fact whatever enzyme where in your food they are going to be denatured the second they hit your ph1 stomach acid. Secondly food doesnt really contain digestive enzymes thats what your digestive tract is for (ok theres lysosomes etc in cells but they aren't going to help you digest your food as they don't work in incredibly acidic conditions). Enzymes in cells will also be denatured at around 40c let alone 120 its why you die if you increase youre body temp around 2C Seriously did no one do GCSE biology on here?

"I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and started on a low carb diet. I dropped from 17.5 stone to 12 stone in 6 months. I stuck to it for 2 years, and remained at 12 stone the whole time. I had weetabix for breakfast whick is slow burning carbs. A ham sandwich for 10am teabreak A salad lunch, on wholemeal pitta 2 digestive biscuits for afternoon tea break Teatime was fun... I had what ever the family had, but removed anything with greater than 5g of carbs per 100g. I had the odd hand full of unsalted peanuts to help with the hunger in the evening, and nothing to eat after 8pm. The carb counting bit is the absolute key. To cut carbs to 5g per 100g is quite extreme, more so if you stick to slow burning carbs. Your weight will drop dramatically. I done it this way to break my sugar addiction. I would say dropping carbs to 15g per 100g is still very low, and would be a better target for anyone to try. Everything you buy has the content per 100 gram table printed on it. Smooth peanut butter is usually arou d 67g per 100g where as crunchy is 11g per 100g, a slice of white bread is 20g per 100g. Potatoe is 100% carbs. The key is finding out whats quick and slow burning. Anything with the reduced fat label is high in carbs and other horrid stuff so keep away from it too. Full fat or skimmed milk has the same carb content so you cab use either, but ideally stick with the skimmed as its less fat. Best advice, eat everything you normally would, replace hi carb stuff with low carb stuff, reduce portion size and read the labels, read the labels and maybe even read the labels. I eat everything i used to eat, but still check the brands to see the lower carb content items go in the trolly. Depending on physical exertion for work or play, you may need to use some fast burning carbs to balance your bodys needs. You should start to feel what you need as you get used to it. Last thing, drink water or diluting lemon juice which is all carb free. Keep away from diet as it will give you the trots and bloat you, but it is carb free... " Very good info, was a good read that..cheers ![]()

"In case anyone is actually interested... The price to pay I spoke of above...is like aching joints, colds, flu, are the fore runners of serious diseases like diabetes, arthritis, cancer. These are all preventable if the body is supplied with regular raw food. This will balance the loss of enzymes from daily wear and tear and from digesting cooked food. Taking all the vitamins in the world will do nothing if they have been made with a process that distroys their living enzymes. The human body cannot take something that is lifeless and reanimate it ![]() ![]() Sprouted seeds eh? I shall investigate this further ![]()

Amylases may possibly work alongside the one in your siliva whilst in your mouth, but that's it. Also; your body does not get "depleted" of enzymes, it is perfectly capable of manufacturing more (possibly the only exception to this might be if you are in the late stages of starvation).
