Got a patch on my shin. Throwing all sorts of moisturiser etc at it. So itchy I'd happily cut my leg off. Anyone know the cure?

Hydrocortisone steroids will alleviate the symptoms, but you can forget about a cure.

Rub some bacon on it? Seriously though it could be caused by your clothing,washing powder,fabric conditioner or other chemicals. What have you tried? Is it actually eczema? You can bathe with aqueous cream and use steroid cream. Don't scratch it

I think so. I have a relative who swears by the stuff for eczema relief.

sunlight may well help,give it a few days in the sun without putting anything else on it..otherwise,if its not something you have had before, or had much of,get a mild steroid from your doc..and use it for as short a time, and as little as possible...

If its that itchy you need antihistamens and steriod cream they now do oilatum in shower gel stay away from perfumed products hope that helps ... my 18 year old has it very bad xx

My son had it bad i was told by an alternative medicine practioner that it could be an alergy.Guess what ? Turns out the allergy was towards cows milk goats milk cured him.

I know,very satisfying but you will make it worse. It's trial and error to find out what helps you and what triggers it. My grandson had it bad for a few years,then it just cleared up.

Are you sure it's "just eczema"? Not infected or cellulitis?

You will need some steroid cream to stop the itching and emollients (grease) to moisturise it.

Ive had ezcema on my hands for years. Controlled by steroid ointment from drs, so id go and get some advice from them. E45 can help too sometimes. Good luck

Porridge oats in a sock in the bath. Use like a loofah sponge type thing.. .new oats in every bath. Worked for my daughter and ex sister in law

I'm a doctor and cutting off your leg will cure you of eczema. I recommend a stiff brandy before getting started.

just about to say same you cant get any better than e45 but if its red raw you will need steriods to clear it up first

You really should try those fake tanning creams..THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!! They do work just lash it on rub gently n let it soak in,if its an awkward spot get a friend to help you out.do this am and pm for a few days and you will swear(literally) at the difference it makes..yes I too scoffed when I first got told about this!

Not a cure,there isn't one but this does help.I was sick to death scratching at my patches until they resembled those mini party pizzas..now when I feel the tingle,I just slap on the tanning lotion

Epaderm ointment. Available on prescription or get some from Boots. Its like lard but is excellent for treating eczema. If it doesn't improve you may need hydrocortisone to get it under control in the short term. They also have an Epaderm cream if you dont like the ointment tho that's not as effective. Fancy creams and potions can often aggravate it.

Minimize your stress levels too. As with others, I use E45. If going abroad,take some with you. I'd like to know which tanning lotions work, as they're all different formulations, like moisturizers are.

I use non scented hypoallergenic cleaners and non biological clothes detergents - persil seems best for me.

As long as the skin isn't broken get some vitamin e oil capsules, burst with a pin and spread the oil all over it.

I get patches of eczema on my face and find this to be the best treatment.

I suffer from eczema on one hand, the top of my bits and my head (one side only -weird) small but regular exposure to uv rays, sunlight will help, E45 will moisturise, and as someone else said, try lowering your stress - that's my main cause (and I've found hot water doesn't help either!) hopefully trying all the different suggestions will help, just don't do them all at once - sounds like a recipe for disaster - or Georges marvellous medicine!!

I find that most stuff the doc prescribed had a limited good effect and the steriod cream makes my skin thin which often makes it worse so i only use that when my skin is about at bleeding point.

The cream i found to be the best is Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream, intrensive moisturising hand treatment, it is brilliant and has a healing effect overnight for me, it has a distinctive smell, not like normal hand cream for women, sort of a bit hospitally and works so well, i get mine from Amazon as its lots cheaper than high street chemists, worth a try my doc recomends it

High dosage antihistamines.

Avoid anything that contains Sodium Laurel Sulphate. Most bubble baths and shower gels contain it. Double base is a good moisturiser available on prescription and as others have said use steroid creams sparingly.

A porridge bath.

No I'm not taking the piss?!

Get an old clean sock. Fill with porridge oats. Tie the top of the porridge filled sock. Place under running bath taps. Do not add soap. The water will look milky. Use the porridge filled sock and wash the affected area.

Gently pat the area dry.

I totally agree and always post about the benefits of porridge baths, when Eczema is raised in the forums. Hopefully a few others will have tried it by now.

There's no need to make a bath full of porridge, to the doubters! Just a cupful of oats, used in a style like mentioned above, is enough.

And definitely use products that don't contain much at all, where possible, where they'll contact your skin. Zero additives that are unnatural, is my target.

I often have a porridge bath when not suffering, and my overall Eczema rate this winter (my normal worst period) was close to zero and find it really softens and conditions my skin. Worth doing every couple of weeks, if you're prone to it, as a preventative measure.

Kill the stress factors in your life!

Steroid cream to remove the initial symptoms. Bath everyday in oilatum bath liquid and only dab the areas to remove dry skin. Use oilatum or equivalent twice daily at minimum to prevent break out and drink recommended water in take daily

Had the no dairy, allergy testing panel and all unperfumed soaps and shower gels and been doing all of that for years to no avail. Mine is partly triggered by stress so that does not help. I daren't hope it may be gone in a few months ...

If you've got more than mild eczema e45 is like putting water on it, won't make a difference.

I had it terribly all over my body for years, lost jobs through absence and was in hospital with it more than once.

Get allergy tested. It changed my life.
